Default What to offer for Kakko?

I finished out of the top three for the first time since 2007 and team is getting old... Acquired Keller, Larkin and Lindholm as fwd as well as Heiskanen on D this year so I think I am in the right direction. I can probably get my hands on 2nd overall pick this year and more than likely draft Kakko. What player or players from my team below would you be willing to give up in order to acquire him (keeping in mind that I can only protect 13 players anyway)? The owner is looking for fwd or fwds and also mentioned that Trouba was available.

    (Rangers fan by the way!!!)

    Thanks for all the input

If you can find a way to move one of your keeper Dmen in a deal for him, I'd be all over that. Any of them with Karlsson being the only exception. With D goals having extra value, that should tempt them.

Thanks Axeman. Would you do something like Byfuglien or McAvoy plus Backstrom for Trouba and the pick? This would then allow me to protect either Reinhart or Radu.

If you're not planning on contending this year, I'd send Byfuglien out. Turning 35 this season and being injury prone are elements not needed by a retooling or rebuilding team. You might try sending Byfuglien and one of Radulov or Reinhart and see where that goes.

I doubt any GM drafting #2 will want a 35yr old player when someone like Kakko is sitting on the board.
I would prepare to give up one, perhaps two young studs - Theodore/McAvoy+Keller to give yourself a real shot at getting it done.

You can try Byfuglien/Radulov - but realistically, anyone over 29 will almost be an auto-reject.

Remember, it's mid-summer. Post draft hype is just kicking into overdrive - meaning Kakko value increasing on a daily bases.

You really need to determine the weakness on his team in regards to keepers - forwards vs defence. If he's lacking one or the other - send a targeted offer to boost said area.

If you're thinking long-term, I would make a bold move right now...

Malkin and Byfuglien FOR Kakko (2nd overall), Trouba, and a 1st next year.

Giving up Geno is tough--but between the annual 10-15 games missed and the age--now is the time to cash him in for blue chips.

Kakko could score between 60-70 next season (compared to Malkin's 75-85) and by 2020-21 Kakko will be a 75 point scorer himself (think Matt Tkachuk, year 2.)

If you don't think you are a heavy favorite this year anyway--take one step back to take three steps forward soon.

Kakko is the real deal--I think he ends up close to Matthews production-wise... and guys like Barkov, Rantanan, etc.
    8-GM / WK-H2H
    Forwards: G=2, A=1, PP/SH= +1, GWG= +2, Shootout G=1, HT= +1
    D-Men/Captain: G=3/A=2

    Start = 13F, 6D, 2G / Keep 44 (3G)
    Captain: Matthews
(F): MacKinnon, Pasta, Marner, Rantanen, Malkin, Barkov, M.Tkachuk, W.Nylander, Pettersson, Gaudreau, Laine, Keller, Miller, B.Tkachuk, Stutzle, DeBrincat, L.Raymond, K.Johnson, Cozens, Quinn, Guenther, Kulich, Cooley

Seider, Edvinsson, Jiricek, Korchinski, Mintyukov, Ceulemans, Hutson

So you would offer Malkin before Backstrom?

I just don't think Backstrom is the piece that gets you Kakko and Trouba in a deep keeper.

Not surprising when the 70pt player is 33 years old and plays a rough game. I like Rads a lot but there's a cliff coming up in the very near future. I'd keep Kakko too in that case.
