Picks for Comtois

I have a pretty solid core of 18 for the team in the signature, with approx. 7.9m left to spend on the remaining 7 guys.

I have the 8th overall, 15th overall, and a 6th rounder at the moment

My thinking is... I don't need high end talent. I need value peripherals and ELCs. So I've been actively trying to flip my first two picks.

The deal being discussed is:

1st (8) + 2nd (15) + Ryan Murray (who I'd be dropping)

for

Max Comtois + 3rd (33) + 4th (38) + 4th (48) + 6th (72) + 7th (73) + 7th (82)

He has too many picks... so the ones I'd be getting are his surplus. Which suits me as I don't have enough.

Thoughts? Is Comtois worth giving up my chance to get Turcotte, Byram, or Caufield?

I'm assuming your decisions at 8th and 15th overall would be between 2019 draft prospects or this trade? If that's the case, smash the accept button on this one.

Comtois should be a very good multi-cat contributor with two more seasons @ $820k. That's wonderful, and I think far more valuable than guys like Cozens/Zegras could potentially be in a couple years. The fact that you add a bunch of draft picks from his surplus is just a bonus. 8th + 15th for Comtois is definitely a deal I would be interested in making in a league like yours.

Yeah. At 8 and 15 I'd mostly be looking at guys from this year's draft class. Assuming Hughes and Kakko go first, there would be five more picks before I'm up. Because of our cap structure (NHL cap with only 12 teams) there are a few vets on the FA who could get drafted (Skinner, Kopitar, RyJo, Doughty). So, it would be a crap shoot to see whether Bryram, Turcotte, or Caufield fall to me. I expect Bryram would be gone.

That being said, I think I'd still take Comtois in a multi-cat set-up.

I agree that Comtois for 8 and 15 in a Hits league is a good return. Youth, opportunity, and a demonstrated ability to help substantially in hits.
