Not sure how much I like this for Poink but it's done.

After going through an arbitration hearing with Andrew Copp, the Winnipeg Jets announced today they have agreed to terms with defenceman Neal Pionk on a two-year contract with an average annual value of $3,000,000.

This avoids Pionk's hearing later this week.

Probably a fair deal, all things considered. Given that defensemen are basically paid based on their TOI, he probably could've done a little better on the AAV but it's not like he's some great player or anything.

I'll probably have to drop him in the salary cap league I own Pionk in. Sigh.

$3M seems high to me, considering Pionk's analytics, but he did play big-ish minutes in NY, which probably drives his price up. *sigh*

Way more than I'd spend on this type of player. Chris Wideman just signed a league minimum deal with Anaheim. Would've been a much smarter bet. The Jets have made a few of these poor depth signings on their blueline. Seems like a blind spot, though definitely a common one throughout the league. I wonder if this guarantees he gets large/favourable deployment.

It's literally the number one factor in determining which defensemen get paid, regardless of what the player does in those minutes. It's why Cody Ceci is a $4.5 million player. I guess the only consolation is that every team does this crap. Pittsburgh is spending $7.25 million combined on Jack Johnson and Erik Gudbranson. It's a joke. Sure seems to me like a randomly selected poster on these boards -- at least from among the regulars -- would be better than half of the GMs around the league.

How does this affect their PP set up?

I'm thinking of drafting Niku in my upcoming draft, think he plays ahead of Pionk on PP2?
