Default Georgiev the future in NYR?

Haven't thought much about this guy, is he the future of goaltending in NY?

    Will he split with Lundqvist?

He played more than Hank down the stretch last year but going into this year, a split might be wishful thinking. Hard to say really but he will see his fair share of games.

Shesterkin is the future but he's likely heading to HFD for a season - but Georgiev was pretty impressive at times and could see 30+ starts or more depending on how the team responds while either he or Hank are in net .

Here's a really great breakdown of the Rangers goalie situation on Twitter from @HockeyStatMiner who focuses on the Rangers:

    https://twitter.com/HockeyStatMiner/...69112792408066

Essentially, he projects Lundqvist for 45 NHL starts, Georgiev for 19 NHL starts (27 AHL starts), and Shesterkin for 18 NHL starts (31 AHL starts). In the thread, he explains his methodology in coming to these projections. One important point to consider is that Georgiev is still waiver-eligible for 17 more appearances, and Shesterkin obviously still at 60, so Georgiev could see slightly fewer appearances just to maintain waiver eligibility for 2020-21.

Beyond next season, I'd be willing to bet they're moving toward a transition to Shesterkin. Georgiev is simply insurance, but I don't think it's necessary. Shesterkin is the real deal.

I think it's possible Georgiev is the future for the Rangers. He's played well, we don't know exactly how Shesterkin will take to the North American game, and frankly, we simply just don't know.

That said, they got Shesterkin to be the future franchise guy, and Georgiev is a somewhat under-the radar guy who's played well enough to force the NHL team to play him more than imagined. Sometimes that works out just fine for the under-the-radar player, but it takes a trade to do so (Sergei Bobrovsky, anyone?) so it's possible that both guys could be future starters on different teams.

I expect him to get significant NHL starts, but it might be that they give Shesterkin some NHL time as well to try and manipulate waiver eligibility for Georgiev.

I see him taking the same route as Raanta and Talbot. That's just my personal opinion though.

He might also be a nice addition in Seattle in a couple years. Who knows.
