The way I see it Kapanen is a 50-point player locked into a good contract for the next three seasons. But if you're kinda far away from competing, that might not be super important to you. There's definitely some upside with KK, but he's probably locked out from meaningful PP minutes just given the depth of high-end forwards in Toronto. He should have solid shorthanded contributions, though, which is definitely worth something with your categories.
I'm not really sure how to project Steel, but I do like Kapanen. He's only a couple years older and he's already an established NHL regular making significant contributions on a deep playoff team. I'd probably take the deal instead of gambling on Steel's upside. I like your chances of translating Kapanen's value into a better asset / assets over the next couple seasons more than I do with Steel. Anaheim is a pretty rough situation right now, and he's going to be in to put up comparable point totals to Kapanen.
