Default AAV - Nylander say what??

So I have been part of salary cap leagues for 3 years now and have never seen this before. Can someone help me understand this?

We use AAV and I was updating contracts and Nylander had AAV of $10.2m last year but now has $6.9m for contract years 2-6. Googled it and that’s what I found.

I always thought AAV is stable over course of contract and doesn’t change..

What is different with his contract?

    Thanks

It was pro-rated due to his shortened season.

so 6.9 AAV over 82 games, but 10.2 over the 54 games he played.

If you google it I'm sure you can find great explanations, but the gist of it is having to compress his $6.7M AAV into only 2/3 of a season. $6.7/(0.66) = $10.15. Off by a couple of days.

So you see this exclusively with players signing contracts after the season starts.
That's why J. Schuldt's AAV was over 6M on an entry level deal. Same thing (he signed in March).

I wonder he makes 6.9 over the months that he played and extrapolate using the same rate per game for the few months he didnt.
No idea, just a thought that roughly makes sense based on the numbers.

For players that signed in-season their AAV only covers the remaining games and is then expanded to include all games.

    Example:

    AAV: 6M (signed at mid-season)
    New AAV: 12M
