Default Barzal and Hronek for Pettersson

For league not in sig. Salary cap league (140% of NHL cap). Scoring cats are Offense – G=2, A=2, +/-=1, PIM=.5, PPP=1, SHP=3, HTS=.2, BLK=.5

Don't worry about positional needs or anything, which side are you on.

In a cap league, assuming you've got the ability to handle the loss of Hronek, I think I'd prefer the Elias Pettersson side. I think he's got a slightly higher upside than Barzal, and you get an extra year of that production on an ELC.

Thanks guys. Would a 1st pick (#9 or #11) in this years prospect draft added to the Barzal side sway it over to the other side?

That would definitely make it close, but I still lean Pettersson by a hair.

Agreed. While it wouldn't be ideal to have to send a draft pick along with Barzal + Hronek, I would probably still make the deal. The players available in that tier: Boldy, Krebs, Newhook, Podkolzin etc. aren't going to be relevant assets for at least another couple years.

Thanks for the opinions. I have the Pettersson side here. I'm going to hang onto him, that 2nd ELC year is huge.

Ok, new trade idea. What's the opinion of this:

    EP

    for

    A. Svechnikov, Cirelli and Dobson/Valimaki (which one is better)

I'd actually keep the Svechnikov side here. I love Pettersson, and I think he's got the higher offensive upside between the two main players in this trade, but Svechnikov is a dual-eligible winger with elite multi-category upside. Top wingers are generally more valuable than centers, and are harder to acquire in my experience. Pettersson might be the more productive player with your settings, but I like the Svechnikov side for the positional factor and upside, as well as the fact that Cirelli is a really good depth piece in cap leagues for this season at $728k. Add one of a couple of elite D prospects (flip a coin), and I think that's just a little bit rich for my blood in acquiring EP.

If you could manage a deal with a similar value center in the place of Svechnikov, that would be a lot more interesting to me. Obviously there are exceptions, but it's generally not great to send elite wingers for centers.

The GM in the OP has EP, I believe...

While I generally agree with this post (Svech + Dobson + Cirelli) is a great return, my only hesitation is not knowing if we are talking about a dynasty league or a limited keeper. Quantity trumps quality in some leagues, but not all...it totally depends on the set up.

I like the deal for you. Svechnikov is arguably pretty close to Pettersson's value with positional difference and added benefit of multi-cat point contributions. Cirelli is a great depth piece, and if you aren't competing he can probably be shipped to a contender for a nice pick/prospect. Dobson is obviously one of the best D prospects available right now. Ultimately, this deal has both quality (Svechnikov) and quantity (Cirelli, Dobson). The fact that the "best" player in the deal is a center makes it easier to deal him / replace.

Thanks for the info, really appreciate it. Sounds like Dobson won't be involved but maybe a lower prospect and/or high 2019 draft pick. Would you still make the deal?

How high a pick are we talking here? If you can get into the Turcotte-Byram-Caufield tier of players then without question yes.

No, not that high, around 12th. Just for info sake, my remaining centers if I were to make this deal would be Seguin, Hischier, W. Karlsson, Marchessault (center eligible) and Cirelli in a start 4.
