I assumed Karlsson would be on the second unit...isn't that how they did it last year? I don't think Burns and Karlsson were on the same unit very often.

Hard to say for certain that he won't be on the top PP unit. Somehow I doubt it, given those other players I listed seem higher on the depth chart at this stage of their careers. That said, maybe they spread the talent over two units, giving Karlsson a chance to run the second unit with maybe Meier and Hertl, and then they put Labanc and someone else on the first unit to play with Couture, Burns, and Kane.
I certainly feel that of all the players I listed in the OP, Labanc is the one I have the most difficulty ranking, partially because he isn't a guarantee for top unit PP duty like most of the others I listed.
