You think Ottawa could have got a pick or prospect thrown in for helping Chicago lower their cap.

Edit: Ottawa also missed the boat by a long-shot to sell high on Smith after his 25 goals in 15-16.

This frees up a little more cap for Chicago. Other than that, its kinda blah.

Anisimov didn't fit in the Hawks lineup anymore so I get why he was moved and it makes sense financially for Ottawa. But I agree, this trade is simply blah on both sides.

Frees up some cap for Chicago, but this one is "meh" all around.

ZACK SMITH is going to look great as a Blackhawk! Defensive 3rd line C to take the pressure off of Strome (and Toews, but he can handle it). Gritty, sticks up for his teammates, and beloved player in his former room. Chicago with Smith and Shaw up front are going to be much 'tougher' to play against. Each of Shaw and Smith had more PIMS last year that the top two Hawk forwards combined. Anisimov was being pushed out by the new players with similar skill-sets.

From the Ottawa side, they move a player that they tried to rid themselves of last season, add "cap" but decrease dollars out. The Sens are obviously trying to scorched-earth the dysfunctional dressing room they had a few years ago. Good deal from their side as well.

From a fantasy perspective, adding Smith down the middle is going to free up Strome from extra defensive duties. I imagine that Strome's O-zone start % to increase and that Debrincat will be dragged along with this usage. Smith a good penalty killer and will ease some of that responsibility from Toews. While this trade may not help Smith from a fantasy perspective, it should certainly help Toews/Kane and Strome/Debrincat. This is a great trade by GMSB.

Is there a "none of the above" or "bleech" option! lol

No surprise, Ottawa picking off another player with an actual salary payout well below his cap hit. Scrooge McMelnyk strikes again.

I definitely think having Smith and Shaw will make the Hawks tougher to play against. I prefer Smith's style of play over Anisimov. I wonder if a change of address will help Anisimov. Maybe he can take it up a notch in Ottawa.

Or easier to put on the PK. Either way.
