    Default Advice on getting McD

I was thinking of asking the McD owner if he would trade him to me for a F and D or two F of his choice from my team. Thats not quite enough so id add a 3rd piece either high draft pick or another player of my choosing from a short list they create. He just took over the team but is knowledgable in pooling.

Thoughts? Ive never tried this approach before.

It's a very reasonable thought. I'd go with with the pick any 2 guys you want route, and if you want to exclude goalies it's fine. If they love goalies they might do Vas staight up or close to it.

I would imagine the starting point would be Barkov and Panarin. Remember, you are approaching him for the best player in hockey so don’t be surprised if he also wants Vasilesvkiy. That’s what I would ask for anyways.

Barkov and Panarin plus another asset (I doubt a pick would do it) might be enough, but somehow I doubt it.

McDavid just doesn't get traded very often in fantasy hockey. I mean, if I owned McDavid I wouldn't trade him for any two players in the NHL, unless my roster was severely lacking and I desperately needed a goalie. Then perhaps I'd deal McDavid for someone like Kucherov and Vasilevsky. The problem is that normally when you get an extra asset in a trade, someone else on your team needs to be dropped. Or, you start to think if you can keep McDavid and upgrade the second player involved in the deal some other way, or make due with what you've got.

I think if you are ever going to acquire McDavid you have to over pay and give up three star players. That is probably the only way I'd seriously consider dealing McDavid. Then again, I have to start looking at the two players I'd be dropping off my roster, comparing them to the extra players I'd be getting, and then wondering if it was worth giving up McDavid or finding another way to upgrade those players/positions.

Ya, if it were me, and you were asking for McDavid, I guess it would depend on the other team strengths and weaknesses. I wouldn't want a D in a points only format.

I would probably start with Vasievskiy as well if it were me but as I say, it depends on the other teams needs.

He has some good talent but his bottom end is weak. He wouldnt be dropping anything significant to add another high end body or two, i really think it helps both teams as I would otherwise lose some good players to the draft and he can add two great pieces to his rebuild. Just didnt want to make the offer and get off on the wrong foot with a new GM.
Here is his roster, I put a 1 next to his projected keepers:
    Athanasiou, A 1 Ekblad, A 1 Hellebuyck, C 1
    Dadonov, E 1 Ekholm, M 1 Markstrom, J 1
    Donato, R 1 Hanifin, N 1 Elliott, B
    Eberle, J 1 Lindell, E 1
    Granlund, M 1 Muzzin, J 1
    Henrique, A 1 Bowey, M
    Johnson, T 1 Hamilton, D 1
    Kerfoot, A 1 Liljegren, T 1
    Krejci, D 1 Lindholm, H
    Marchand, B 1 Valimaki, J
    McDavid, C 1
    Saad, B 1
    Sheary, C
    Simmonds, W
    Wheeler, B 1
    Brassard, D
    Bratt, J 1
    Fischer, C 1
    Kaprizov, K 1
    Koivu, M
    Maroon, P
    Zuccarello, M 1

I can stomach losing Vas but goalies arent worth a tonne in our league.

    Bakov and Panarin, ok.

    thanks fellas.

That’s a pretty ugly looking roster for a 10 team league. Adding 3 for 1 would definitely help him and you might be able to talk him into it but McDavid is the perfect piece for any fantasy team, whether you are rebuilding, retooling or competing for the championship.

But you need to be sure you are willing to give up Barkov + Panarin + a top D or G in order to land McDavid. If it were a limited keeper I’d tell you to throw a pick sweetener in there if you had to but you guys keep 26 players. That’s a lot to give up for one player, McDavid or not.

    Keep us updated. Good luck.

I just traded for McDavid in my pts only keeper league and it cost me Tavares, Rantanen, and Svechnikov for McDavid and Klingberg. It wasn't easy handing out two of my favorite players but the price is never low.

that actually seems like a bit of an underpayment for McDavid, imo. The addition of Klingberg swings the deal clearly in your favor. I mean, Klingberg is generally considered a top 10 (maybe top 5?) dman in fantasy hockey (assuming points-only). Congrats!
