Excellent deal for the Blues. This could have easily been a lot higher.

That's a pretty solid contract all around. That's a nice AAV for Binnington, and at two years it's a decent bet for the organization.

UFA when this is done, I thought they might have tried to buy a year or two of UFA...

Good deal. They don’t want to buy any UFA years if he turns back into a pumpkin this next season. Not much risk for the organization and Binnington is betting on himself. Nice show me/bridge deal.

Interesting - his AAV is $50k higher than Jake Allen's. I guess Binnington just wanted everyone to know who's #1 in St. Louis

Surprising that they're walking him straight to UFA. About the AAV that was expected though.

He needed to make more than Allen, so that's good. He'll get paid in free agency if he plays decently during this contract.

Maybe the Blues are focused to try to win the cup in the next 2 year when the core is there.

If he's legit, they'll have no issues paying him.

Exactly. He’s been a career minor league goalie (drafted in 2011) up to this past season. He played great but they have 6 months of performance to go on (remember the Hamburgler?) so two years is a great term for him to prove he is indeed an NHL goalie.

Just because he's a UFA in 2 years doesn't mean he'll be running away from there. More term generally gets teams in trouble.
