Figured he would end up coming back to Canada. Surprised he didn't get an offer a little farther East (CGY/EDM) to be closer to home.
Per Friedman's Twitter:
Hearing VAN and Micheal Ferland closing in a contract...not done yet, but headed that way

(No I don't have a hockey problem...)
His mom was a fan of the Sedins and Ryan Kesler haha.
I think he's a good player to add to the mix but as noted in the Canucks thread this creates complications for signing Boeser and moves will need to be made to free up space.
I wonder what this means for line combos, as I could also see Ferland playing on that top line with EP and Boeser instead of Miller, putting Miller on Bo's line and pushing some of the other fringe guys out of the top 6 (e.g., Virtanen, Baertschi, Goldobin, Leivo).

If the amount is indeed 4x4, that is a fair signing for both parties. Ferland is a useful player.
I'm really liking Vancouver's chances of earning a playoff spot. It will be tough, but they should be much improved with the veterans they've added and one more year of experience for their younger players. Plus, I really like the element Hughes brought to their transition game at the end of last season. If he can sustain that level of play through an 82 game schedule (big "if", I know), then there are reasons to be optimistic about the Canucks this year.

Hated those signings (along with Schaller) from the beginning. Bringing in bottom-six vets to serve as cannon fodder during a rebuild is actually a good idea. Giving them fat contracts with term is terrible. It creates clutter that gets in the way of new faces (who could actually be useful 4-5 years down the line) getting a chance. The vets they brought in won't be around when this team reaches its peak.
Edit: I was much more in favor of Roussel but definitely a strong dislike towards the other two deals.

Ferland agreed to 4 yr contract with the Vancouver Canucks. $3.5 million aav.
I think that's a pretty good signing actually. Reasonable cap hit for a player that can get into the top 6. I'm actually amazed that it came in so low as a UFA signing.
so... Benning added the 4th year to drop the cap hit from 4 to 3.5 is my thinking.
He's 27, so it's not an albatross of a deal. Potential he breaks down before he gets to year 4 with his style of play.
Good upside to this deal too. I don't mind it.
Much better than the Myers deal
