I heard about this trade on the radio driving home and immediately went "WTF!" I thought Jokiharju showed a lot of promise and Nylander shows... what, exactly?

IMO Jokiharju has been overrated for a while. He had a splashy first couple weeks of the season last year when Q gave him a lot of minutes and then showed a lot of growing pains as the season progressed. I still thought he should have been on track for a spot this season in Chicago but that was more of a testament to how bad Seabrook is. Over the last couple days I have spent some time on Evolving Hockey looking at the fancy stats (the site keeps crashing on me) to see how bad Seabrook is and I kept noticing that Jokiharju showing up at the bottom of the ratings for Hawks' dmen last season. Seabrook, Forsling, and Jokiharju were easily the Hawks worst defensemen last season. And it was reported by a reputable source that the Hawks didn't feel Joker had any elite upside in any area and that he would his ceiling was a 2nd pairing dman. Now it sounds like the Hawks should have gotten more than Nylander but I feel pretty safe in saying that it's not as bad of a trade as a lot of people are making out.

Vesey in net. I like it lol.
This trade doesn’t appear very good. I mean, gamble on a forward’s upside fine, but you really have to think Jokiharju is gonna tank to pull a move like this. A Nylander is literally at the bottom of the barrel, that I feel like they could have moved a middling AHLer for him.
His comment coming out of Buffalo though, on the Hawks:
“Good at developing players, actually know what they’re doing.”
Ouch lol.
Chicago did turn Strome from a 27pt/82game player to a 72pt/82game player so hopefully they can turn Nylander around. But clearly they've been shopping their D for forwards and no one wanted the Keith or Seabrook's contracts. However, Jok could have gotten them more, or should have.
Stan Bowman has failed the last few yrs.
