Trouba did the right thing. It forces a deal to get done. No chance for things to go south and result in a holdout.

Yes I suppose if you think of it that way. I wonder..just reading the other reports on the web regarding this arbitration..it offers NYR the chance to reopen the buyout window..in wonder if it was suggested by NYR to either players agants to do so..so they can rethink buyouts?

And he would like to tell the Leafs what he’s worth...not have an arbiter tell him what he’s going to get.

The buyout window reopens in case teams get an unexpected ruling and need to create cap space. Of course that's not how it ends up being used. It doesn't affect the players going through arbitration though.

They really are aware of how often these settle out of court when they schedule six for Aug 4 alone

Your final four arb filings of 2019: Joel Edmundson and STL — team offer: $2.3M, player ask: $4.2M

Edmundson had a bad year but I'm not sure any arbitrator is going to agree with a 20% pay-cut. With a hair over $5M to re-sign him, Barbashev, and Maroon I wonder if they'll regret not trading his rights before negotiations got this far driving his value down. I'm assuming he'll be awarded a raise near-equal to the pay-cut the Blues have proposed.

That's normal. The team will be way too low and the player way too high. My guess is the arbitrator will split the difference and Edmundson gets $3.25. That's what the arbitrator usually does.

I realise the low-balling is a negotiation tactic but we've seen arbitrators heavily favour the player ask if it appears the team isn't negotiating in good faith. Nate Schmidt being awarded over double what Vegas offered (and very close to his ask) is the only example I can think of off the top of my head. It wouldn't shock me if Eddy get closer to $4M than $3M.

I wonder if the arbitrator will 'over-correct' and award Eddy a larger salary than he would have if the Blues came in with a more reasonable offer.

Schmidt is a completely different situation. For starters the team was trying to offer him close to the league minimum. That isn't the case with Edmundson.

So his play regressed but his pay should go up. Makes sense.
