If VAN and EDM could somehow keep $1-$2M of the cap hit of each player while also paying the full signing bonuses AND like 20% of the salaries, then I could see Melnyk agreeing to this!

Eriksson AAV is 6m - for three more years.
He was just paid his $4m signing bonus. - leaving 2mil in salary this year.
He's owed 4m next year 3m signing & 1m salary
21/22 - 1m bonus - 3mil salary

They'd be getting a 6m cap hit for 3m per season in real $$ -- that's music to Cheapnyk.. I mean Melnyk's ears.
These are the exact type of players teams like Ott look for to reach cap floors.

Edm uses the 6m to sign Gusev for 2yrs.

Ott reaches the cap floor - Two teams move albatrosses - Edm gets the winger they crave.

Where would you rank Gusev in an upcoming prospect draft? Noticed he's not owned in my league. Gusev along with Binnington are probably the most noticeable unowned prospects. Where would you slot them vs the 2019 draft class as you'd get more immediate return on taking them vs anyone else but Hughes and Kakko?

I'd probably draft them immediately after Kakko/Hughes, I'm thinking Binnington first -- but that depends on your league categories and the relative value of goalies / skaters.

Eriksson was critical of Greene at the world championships this year. That's why they're intent on moving him out. There's even talk of burying him in Utica and taking a 5.1 cap killer to do so.

For a team like Ott needing to hit the cap floor - the sweetener required to get them to agree should be much less than... the sweetener required by Edm to add on to Lucic who has an extra year - to take his 6m on.

At the end of the day. Van should come out as a + team between the two deals.
Lucic is already on record as saying he wants to play in Van.

Having a 6m albatross that wants to be there is much better than a 6m that doesn't. Especially if it comes with a Yamamoto or Ethan Bear attached.
