What's up with Gusev and Vegas. Is he a restricted F/A? and if so why wouldn't a team offer sheet him?

Because there are maybe like 3-5 good GMs in the entire league. You could offer sheet him for like $4.5million AAV and the compensation would be a second round pick. Boom, instant top-six forward on a reasonable contract.

I don’t believe Gusev is eligible for an offer sheet because of service time, but I’m unsure.

That makes sense, and I didn't really consider that. I can imagine there are teams who have expressed interest in trading for his rights, though.

I know if i was Blue Jackets GM i'm on the phone ASAP to make a deal with Vegas. He's the closet thing to Panarin available. They have the cap space and could maybe even get him cheap with taking on some of Vegas problems with the cap space.

They should be after Gusev because they need good players, not because he happens to be born in the same country as Panarin.

I said that because they played in the same league the KHL not where they were born. In that league Gusev had more points than Panarin. Gusev is a world class player and has led the Khl in top offensive stats for some time now not to mention what he has done on the international stage. He is also thought to be the most ready player outside the Nhl right now. I didn't say where he was born and don't really care where he was born.

It sounds like Gusev will be traded at some point. I just think so many teams are up against the cap that the deal won't happen until some of the key RFAs are signed or smaller trades are made to free up cap space. I highly doubt he will be in Vegas next year.

I read somewhere yesterday that there was something like 8-10 teams reaching out to Vegas about him. I dont think there's any doubt he will get dealt. God knows where though. He does need a new contract.

Too many moving pieces to get done... but.

Eriksson to Ott - owed 9m over 3yrs - 6m AAV - gets them to cap floor
Lucic to Van - same salary... a player Greene doesn't hate.. yet. Also likely replaces prospect/pick lost moving Eriksson to Ott
Edm uses the 6m to sign Gusev for 2yrs.

Ott reaches the cap floor - Two teams move albatrosses - Edm gets the winger they crave.

    Win-Win-Win
    right?

That would work beautifully for me. If Holland could get this done, take down Gretzky's statue and put Kenny's up!

I'm totally on board with this.

There's too much logic in it for it to happen.
I mean, it just puts two rumours together - Lucic to Van & Eriksson out of Van with Ott needing a cap hit & Gusev getting a grade A landing spot.

We all know Eriksson is leaving & Edm needs Lucic to leave.

but we all know... 1+1+1 = won't happen

I'd even add Puljujarvi to Lucic to make that happen LOL!

HAHAHAHAHA, you guys are acting like OTT would want to pay the full salary in your dream scenarios!

If VAN and EDM could somehow keep $1-$2M of the cap hit of each player while also paying the full signing bonuses AND like 20% of the salaries, then I could see Melnyk agreeing to this!
