Can’t speak for Kessel owners but as a Keller and Schmaltz owner, I am very pleased.

Galchenyuk + PO Joseph for Phil + 4th round pick.

What a travesty for Rutherford. He's been slowly destroying this team since their back to back Cups.

    My take...

Kessel's value drops significantly, imo. I see a 15 pt reduction. He's now a 70 pt player, imo.

This helps the PP in Arizona, so that will help Keller, Schmaltz, and OEL.

Galchenyuk is a wash. He will play second unit PP and 3rd line minutes in Pittsburgh. I'm sure he will get an audition on Malkin and/or Crosby's wing, but he has shown enough for me to believe that he is nothing more than a 3rd line winger. He won't produce more than 45-50 pts.
    12 team, H2H, salary cap
    1 pt/G or A, 2 pts/W, 1 pt/OTL, 1 pt/SO

    Forward: B. Point, M. Necas, A. Debrincat, T. Zegras, J. Bratt, L. Raymond
    Defense: J. Morrissey, A. DeAngelo, S. Gostisbehere, D. Doughty
    Goalie: T. Demko, E. Merzlikins
    Bench: M. Rossi, C. Glass, M. Maccelli, M. Dumba, K. Shattenkirk, F. Andersen
Prospects of Note: L. Stankoven, J. Lekkerimaki, D. Yurov, B. Clarke

League has been running continuously since 1997-98

Not great value but honestly what did you expect them to get for him? Kessel had a shortlist of teams they could've traded him to. Apparently a handful of division rivals were on that list. So Rutherford had limited options to start-- some of which he wouldn't do business with, and others that probably didn't even want Kessel. I'd bet that there were maybe 2-3 teams that Rutherford could've legitimately negotiated with, and each one of them knew of the massive amount of leverage that they had.

Oddest part to me is why Arizona was even on Kessel's list? I guess at this stage in his career he just wants to get paid and sit around eating hot dogs in the sun. Can't fault him for that.

Arizona was on his list because of Rick Tocchet. They develop a great relationship in Pittsburgh.

Galchenyuk could breakout next year ala E.Lindholm.

Kessel and Subban both signed massive contracts and they've both been traded twice during the lifetime of those contracts.

Kessel only cost the Penguins $6.8m and they had that cost certainty for another three seasons, whereas Galchenyuk represents a $1.9m cap savings but is UFA after next year. I guess this trade depends on how the Penguins use their newfound cap space (and I still hope they can somehow shed the Johnson and Gudbranson contracts without giving up too much), but that being said I don't really have a ton of faith in Rutherford using cap space well.

Tough trading a player who has a limited amount of destinations and other GM’s know you want to move him.
None the less I find the return underwhelming for JR .

As a Kessel owner I’m fine with this. Like it much better than Minnesota. He’ll get all the offensive deployment he can handle because they don’t have anyone else. Big upgrade over Galchenyuk, who is a bust as far as being a top 6 forward goes.
