With the addition of Miller, they’ve got 4 D who in my mind can run a PP. 5 if we consider Pilut’s potential. I’ve been a fan of Montour for a while now, any chance he gets moved? I can’t see him getting much PP even if Ristolainen gets traded. Is Montour worthy of a buy low situation or steer clear?

I'm somewhat unsure, but they are doing it cheaper than the Flyers are, and that situation's even more head-scratching to me.

I suspect we'll see Ristolainen dealt, but Montour may be as well. I think they are going to see what forward help they can get for those two.

I feel like Montour’s offensive potential would be wasted in Buffalo.

Bogosian is an injury prone and under performing player who is 1 year from being a UFA and is coming off of major hip surgery. Bogosian is not a long term piece.

If we excluded him from the RD depth chart, then you are left with Risto, Miller and Mountour. I don’t get the talk about moving Montour or Risto because they just got Miller.

Buffalo fell apart last season. They can’t come back with the same team.

I think they are improving their D, that's what they are doing.

Miller coming in allows them to trade Ristolainen, who is a 3/4 Dman at best. Miller is better and cheaper. They will trade Risto now (If they are smart) for a 2C. Mittlestadt is going to be good down the road but as a 2C last year, he wasn't ready and he was overwhelmed.

To the OPs question about Montour, he's a PP2 now and no where near as valuable as he was in Anaheim. I'm not saying he's useless, but to temper your expectations on what he's worth now. I'm not saying don't buy, but chances are if someone is selling him, they are selling on name value, and is probably expecting to get a hefty return. If that's the case, I'm steering clear.

Good for GM Botterill for building from the back end out, and if moving a D man or two to address forward depth, and more specifically 2C than that also deserves a pat on the back. That said, knowing he needs to find a 2C is one thing, but what he ends up finding is another. Lets not overlook the fact that they had arguably the best 2C in the entire league and traded him for pennies on the dollar, simply because he came out and said "im tired of losing" Which fairly represents what Buffalo has been about. I like the D they have assembled on paper, but will defer any real praise until they manage to turn that position of strength into assets elsewhere on the roster.

I could be wrong, but it appears they're adding a legit top-four quality NHL Dman for below-market value.

Acquiring actual talent, something they haven't done for years. Also, this could very well setup the much rumoured exodus of Rasmus Ristolainen.

Depth is a good thing for an NHL team's success. Sucks for those hoping for more out of Montour and Miller. Not everyone gets to make it as a PP1 star dman unfortunately.

I second those who feel they want to move on from Risto.
