It's too early to really tell but FWIW:

I think Brannstrom's upside will likely be that of a highly skilled, complimentary #2 dman i.e. ~10-15 goals and ~55 points -- in the mold of Kimmo Timonen/Mark Streit/Torey Krug with a couple of seasons above that mid 50s window if given the right opportunities.

Byram is an absolute killer and looks to have the higher upside and seems destined to become the type of dman you build your franchise around i.e. 15-20 goals and ~60+ points -- in the mold of Hedman/OEL/and (dare I say) Nick Lidstrom.

I've likened Byram to Doughty for a while.

Had Doughty had a more offensive coach in LA. This would be an even larger compliment.

Byram is a better player on what could be a really good team soon.

Edge to Byram, for me, for two reasons.

    1. In COL, Byram(LH) could compliment Makar(RH) both at even-strength and, possibly, on a 3F:2D PP1 unit.
    2. In COL, the PP1 forwards are electric and that should be one of the more dynamic PP1 units in the league for next 3-5 years.

Obv, OTT doesn't have high-end forward talent (yet)... so that directly impacts defenseman scoring.
Also, both Chabot(LH) and Brannstrom (LH) are lefties... so that reduces the likelihood of them playing together at ES or PP.
I would expect Chabot to be D1-pair and PP1, which likely keeps Brannstrom on D2-pair... and TBD whether two lefties can play on PP1 together - it often doesn't click well.

It’s very hard to compare when one has only played CHL. Brannstrom looked dominant offensively at the World jrs and put up very good numbers in the AHL in his second year post draft. There’s a definite wow factor about Brannstrom and I think he may end up being an elite offensive force.

This is very tough.. These young dmen are so hard to predict.. If I am forced to choose, I guess I would take Byram..

the way its set up for colorado and ottawa, both those guys will be #2 young studs. Byram is more hyped atm, time will tell who is better or maybe they be about the same...who knows. Both have great value atm. If Byram does not make the team Branstrom's value will be higher imo.
