    Default [TRADE] Soderberg to ARZ

    @FriedgeHNIC
    Something coming down between COL and ARIZ. Sounds like Carl Soderberg and Kevin Connauton involved

    @DarrenDreger
    Colorado trades Soderberg to Arizona.

    @DarrenDreger
    Connauton and pick involved in the deal.

    @DarrenDreger
    3rd round pick and Connauton for Soderberg.

    Ol' wonky-eyed Soderberg has always been one of my favourite players.
    Good story (since I back-pat - I sometimes try to moderate that with self-loathing mistake stories)...
    I shall bring up that ONCE (true story) I speculated Soderberg could be a 70pt player (it was a "come out of nowhere" thread).
    I did, I really did.
    He's not a 70pt player... never has been... but I really like his playing style, I think he's VERY underrated as an overall NHL two-way center.

    I dig Chayka's GM-ing, always rooting for that guy!
    Good move for ARI which is too young to have their kids know how to manage their two-way play.
    Put Soderberg at C3 and let the kids on the wing do their offense without getting bogged down by thinking about the back-check.

    Great deal for Arz.
    Unsure of why Colorado does this though. I saw nothing to show Jost was ready for #2C duties last year. Kaut/Bowers?
    colorado's got something else brewing to make this kind of deal. Tonnes of cap space... seems weird as this looks a bit like a cap dump.

    Yup...A guess could be that the COL management ran the numbers and thinks they can land some high-end UFAs/RFAs.
    So... a simple "cap dump".
    Maybe COL feels it is a player for Marner, Point, Bob, and/or Panarin.
    With the very affordable MacKinnon contract, Makar on ELC, and Bowen on ELC... they have that magical formula to get $100m of player-value out of a $80m team.
    All they have to do is max-spend on available players and supplement them with their young kids.

    Not sure ARZ needed a C between Stepan, Schmaltz, Dvorak, Richardson, etc.

    As for COL, I think it's a precurser to another move, and a shrewd one by getting a return for shedding cap.

    crazy a team with 37m in cap room would want/need to shed another 4.9m...

    I also expect Arz. to make another move now to offload a C.. lots of rumours about Dvorak the past couple days.

    Interesting.
    Though it makes sense.
    I actually am a fan of Dvorak... think he's got some potential yet, just hasn't quite put it all together.
    Dvorak is a 2014 Coyote draft pick... and Chayka is a 2016 hire.
    Just another player that is pre-Chayka, so he'll flip him and then he can take credit for the incoming player.

    As much as I like Chayka, that Dylan Strome trade is already looking like a big loser for giving up a hair too soon.

    I honestly think they're moving Barrie now.

    Why else draft a Dman @ 4 (yes I know, take the best player available) when you already didn't have room for Makar & Timmins last season. Going into 19-20, with the addition of Connauton there's 7 D signed and fighting for a spot. Include Timmins, Byram, and Zadorov who still isn't signed, and you have a major log jam on the back end.

    There's no guarantee Byram is NHL ready next season. I'd bet he's back with the Giants and making a run for Gold with the U20 team

    Apparently the Bolts want to bridge Point at like 2-3 years, while Point is looking for something longer term. That said, I wouldn't rule him out as a legit target for an offer sheet. Forget Marner ... Point is the 23 year old two-way play driving Center that's ridiculously good at scoring goals.
