    Default Werenski vs Q. Hughes

    In a 20 team 12 keeper points only league with D goals being worth 2 points and 1 point for assists, I have werenski and a chance to get quinn hughes, for now i know werenski is the better option but I think hughes has a higher ceiling especially with what vans pp is going to be, just want some opinions.

    Sure Hughes possibly has a higher ceiling but Werenski is only about to turn 22 next month, he's still extremely young. Tell me, would you trade Hedman for Hughes?

    Werenski stats;
    19 - 78gp - 48pts
    20 - 77gp - 37pts
    21 (season just passed) - 82gp - 44pts

    Hedman stats;
    19 - 74 - 20
    20 - 79 - 26
    21 = 61 =23

    Of course, the future isn't set in stone and I'm not saying Werenski is or will be better than Hedman, but Werenski has hella good stats for his age. Only one player 21 or under got more points than him (Chabot) with Dahlin level at 44 this season. The season before? Provorov and Sergachev. His rookie season? No one under 21 surpassed him - he was 19. Just from a bit of research I found the following defenders he was higher than at the respective ages of 19,20,21... Subban, Hedman, Letang, Doughty (not inc 20), Rielly, Burns.
    The one he was most like? Erik Karlsson - Not including EK's breakout year at 21 where he got 78 ****ing points (wtf lol).

    It's an absolute no from me - sure Hughes potentially has a higher ceiling (POTENTIALLY) but he has a lower floor, Werenski is already proven and still incredibly young.

    +1 I’m a Hughes owner but it’s to argue with this post. I’d also add that since your league is goal heavy this would favour Werenski as well, IMO.

    for sure I see what your saying here, im just a huge fan of hughes, the other owner just wants a d man back as heiskanen is the only other d man I would consider moving but hard to do as he has shown flashes of brilliance in his rookie year.

    Werenski is where we're hoping Hughes is in two to three years. I would keep werenski as well.

    I'm big on Hughes, and unlike MZac, I'm expecting him to hit 40 points this season. I'm still not trading Werenski straight up. Using Hedman's career as a measuring post (thanks JayJJeffery), and not even considering player age, Werenski is 3rd in points & points/game over his first 3 years compared to other player's first 3 years since 2009. You can guess who is above him.

    I prefer Werenski. I get the Hughes excitement but until Hughes gets to Werenski's level (he's not there yet), then stay with what you know. Even if Hughes passes Werenski at some point, I don't expect it to be a great amount so it's not like you're losing much and that's an "If" he passes Werenski.

    I like Hughes over Werenski. Werenski has Jones blocking him, Hughes has Edler blocking him. I like Vancouvers PP1 over Columbus’, and who says Werenski gets PP1. Jones runs that PP unless Torts goes with 2 D on PP1. There is also no EP and Boeser on Columbus’ PP. The kicker was that 3 on 3 against LA last season with Hughes, EP, and Boeser. Hughes looked better then EP and BB on that 3 on 3.

    As for the Hedman for Hughes trade... no way. Hedman is elite and on the most elite team in the league with the most potent offence and QB of a lethal PP1.

    I love me some Quinn Hughes, but I feel like Werenski is being totally underrated here. In points-only with a goal bonus, I'm giving the edge to Werenski here.

    Hughes is the shiny new toy here, and probably has a better opportunity at PP1, with arguably a more talented unit. Having said that, there will be a learning curve for him, especially at ES, so I think that Werenski gives you a much safer floor, and if Hughes "goes off" in his rookie season, he's probably not outproducing Werenski by much, if at all.

    I think that next year at this time, we will have a much clearer picture of the situation (Werenski v. Jones deployment, if Hughes can put it all together or not), so for now, in a non-cap league, I would want Werenski. I get the notion of "this could be the last chance to get in on Hughes", but as others pointed out, Weresnki is already very accomplished and still in his very early 20s.

    I love Hughes but Werenski is more proven and still a baby--he also has a better shot.
