Does Borgstrom have a legitimate shot at being a star with the Panthers? If they don’t have room for him, is a trade likely? They just seem pretty stacked on forward, especially with Panarin potentially coming.

He'll be turning 22 this summer so he is still relatively young. While 18 points in 50 games is nothing to write home about, at this point in his NHL career those numbers are pretty impressive, especially when we consider he was seeing 12 minutes / game with secondary linemates. He still hasn't really been given a chance to succeed alongside the Panthers' more talented players. The portion of his age-21 season spent in the AHL, he was basically point-per-game, so I'm not worried about his upside just yet. 2019-20 should be the year he gets a serious shot to show his stuff in Florida.

If the Panthers add contracts like Panarin and Bob, the kids on the cheap will soon be filling some nice roles. This bodes well for Borgstrom, Tippett, and eventually Grigorenko and Heponiemi.

I still think Borgstrom has 55-65 point upside soon, with a 70-75-ish ceiling. But, I'm curious to see how the line shakeout if the Cats sign Panarin and skill keep Huberdeau, etc. I'm thinking the top line is Panarin-Barkov-Dadonov... with Huberdeau taking Hoffman's LW spot on the 2nd line. If so, I'm curious where Borgstrom sees the most time next season.

Agreed, might take some time, but if the Cats DO sign Panarin and Bob, they are going to need to fill out that top line with good players with low salaries. Borgstrom will not be going anywhere.

Not sure I'd say " star" but I believe he can carve out a nice 50-60 point annual career for himself regardless of who the Cats sign / don't sign.

Let me tell you that I watched a good 6-7 panthers games this year specifically to see how he’d do and he looked pretty impressive out there in limited action. He has drive for the net, creativity and useful speed. Not a power player but he gets in there and makes his moves. Reminds me of a young Charlie Coyle in terms of how he moves, but he has way more skill. I like the player and I think he’s in their long-term plans.

On a roster where you can stash a player for an extra year, I wouldn’t be shy. Hoffman is due up after next year and Dadonov is at peak level now. It won’t be long before he’s given a shot.
