Heavy C league that counts FOW, G, A, STP, hits, blocks and there is a salary cap. I was up against the cap so I made an extremely bold move to trade Gaudreau for Turcotte + Zegras + hague + Wilde. Probably not the smartest move but everyone knew I was in cap trouble and that was the best value available out of all the trades I received that brought me under the cap. Let me know what you think. Tried to get a good blend of high upside players from this year and some players that were hanging around from past drafts. Probably missed a few diamonds in the rough and reached a little too soon on some guys but I am very happy with the results as of right this second.
I think you killed it in this draft. Turcotte/Zegras are great picks. York at 17 stands out. Maybe Suzuki over Brink but that is a minor. You're 3rd round is awesome. Brown, Mitchell, and Kurashev is some great drafting. And nice get with Hague in the trade. He could turn into a multi-cat STUD.

Thanks for the response. Appreciate the compliments and glad I am not getting too beat up for making that Gaudreau move. I mean I love Johnny but he is not the best at multi-cat especially when FOW are counted. Thanks again.

Knight goes 5 OA, the drafting GM was agressively trying to acquire a later 1st to draft him around 9 OA, but unwilling to overpay to entice someone to part with their 1st.

I signed G Pyotr Kochetkov in free agency after the 2019 WJC, with the belief that he would go early in the 2019 Draft in my league following his stellar performance in Vancouver. Nonetheless, he was "drafted" 18 OA, 25 OA and 60 OA as people didn't see his name in the players drafted list.

Were leftovers not allowed to be picked until the 6th round? There’s a lot that should have gone much higher.

No restrictions on when overagers can be drafted. The priority tends to be grabbing the perceived highest ceiling talent, as there's a 3 year window for players to develop before they need signing to a roster in this pool. My concern is keeping a stoked pipeline of ELCs or bridge contracts to offset the cost of my stars.

I snagged Texier at 30. Part of the reason many overagers don't go until the 6th round is many of the GMs willing to look into the overage prospects trade off their 4th & 5th rounders either to acquire multiple late picks or improve their rosters for playoff pushes.

This league draft tends to pull the first 30-40 someodd players from the most recent draft (2019 in this instance) before many overagers start going off the board. Some GMs just pull the highest player available off the most recent NHL draft and trade off late rounders for depth guys enabling the more dedicated GMs to acquire late rounders to swing for the fences on boom/bust players or guys that have developed well in their D+1/D+2 seasons.

I know I traded off my 2018 5th for a 2018 7th, 2018 8th, 2019 7th and 2019 8th last year. I'm one of 3 GMs that would load up on late round picks to snag overagers from previous drafts.

Though, this year had a different dynamic to the draft, as we added 2 expansion teams bringing the league to 12 teams total. In previous years we had 80 picks total, as opposed to the 105 in this year's draft (expansion teams were granted extra picks in the 2019 & 2020 draft). So taking the top 60 players and a few goalies meant only 15 or so overagers got drafted annually. Now with the added picks, more overagers will get taken in the draft, instead of signed in free agency. Things will settle down in the 2021 draft in this league when the draft is limited to 96 picks (8 picks per team, prior to trades).

Surprised to see Knight still going so high in some of these drafts after the Bobrovsky signing.

I try to trade my 10th for the 6th,7th and 8th for Turcotte but i was denied all 3 times. I was in shock that he was still available at 10th!! I’m still trying to understand this one honestly. I think my draft was pretty solid and i’m quitte satisfied.I took a chance on Broberg but at 28th , it was worth the risk IMO.

You killed it! Hughes and Turcotte (especially at 10.........WOW). I'm surprised Comtois went so late and Heinola went that early.

But you should be very very pleased with your draft. I can see Turcotte and Kaliyev on the same line lighting it up in a few years.
