Heavy C league that counts FOW, G, A, STP, hits, blocks and there is a salary cap. I was up against the cap so I made an extremely bold move to trade Gaudreau for Turcotte + Zegras + hague + Wilde. Probably not the smartest move but everyone knew I was in cap trouble and that was the best value available out of all the trades I received that brought me under the cap. Let me know what you think. Tried to get a good blend of high upside players from this year and some players that were hanging around from past drafts. Probably missed a few diamonds in the rough and reached a little too soon on some guys but I am very happy with the results as of right this second.
16 Team H2H Franchise style with Cap (G,A,FOW,SOG, STP, Hits, Blocks)(Gpt3, GAA, Sv, Sv%) 3 Centers, 3 LW, 3 RW, 5 D, 2 Skaters, 4 Bench spots, 3 IR. Minor league prospects can only be acquired via trade and draft.

    C: Seguin, Eichel, Crosby
    LW: Marchessault, Rakell, Labanc
    RW: Lindholm, Radulov, Stamkos
D: Ghost, Risto, Dumba, Cernak, Juulsen
    Skt: Strome, Wheeler
    Bench: Staal, Perry, Thornton, Lemieux

    Goalies: Holtby, Grubauer, Jarry

Minor Leagues: Alex Turcotte, Trevor Zegras, Vitali Kratsov, Noah Dobson

Hard for me to agree without knowing the value of goalies in each particular league. In many set ups, you get once chance to get somebody like Knight, and that's to draft him...

I understand that. But in most instances even goalies like him are 3-4 years away (if not more) from a true sniff and I'd argue that many don't even pan out at the end of the day - or at least 'fulfill their destiny' as a franchise goaltender. How many of those are there in the league? Three? Four? Five? I get that this might help your side of the argument even more but how many other goalies were drafted to become 'the chosen one' and never panned out? Look at the 2007 NHL Draft for example where three goalies were taken in the 1st round: Bernier, Varlamov and Irving.

I get that Knight is special - I get that he has a pedigree we haven't seen since Samsonov, Vasilevskiy, Price and Fleury.

But, in those 3-4 years it will take Knight, no list will experience more volatility than the goalie prospect rankings. So many prospects come and go... rise and fall. So many teams' situations change in that time. Injuries happen. prospects'/players' self-confidence come and go. Depth charts change. Confidences of management are won and lost. Short, medium and long-term organizational outlooks/strategies change.

There will be a good number of goalies (who haven't played a regular season game in the NHL) getting a worthwhile shot before he does (which may be even further out than the 3-4 years I mention above with Sgt. Bobrovsky signing a 7 year contract in FLA). And that's all you need at the end of the day -- just one shot. Look at Binnington as a most recent example -- just when Jake Allen was about to be 'the guy'. And there will be more affordable ways to grab serviceable young goalies on the fringe like he once was or other promising prospects in the interim.

That said, however, I'd have no problem targeting Knight in the latter half of the first round in bigger leagues. I understand that his name alone holds a lot of intangible value in keeper/dynasty leagues. I just wouldn't take him in the top 10 (or 12 in this draft year's instance).

I might be wrong. That's just my point of view through my own, averaged-out experiences in large (20-24+ team) and small (12-14 team) leagues over the years.

I know I could not believe knight went so high- lol! I gu as it's hard to get quality tendies in this league. I agree on zegras I really struggl d between him and Cozens. In the end I think it's cam Robinson who really swayed saying sometimes you mistake the nameplates between him and jack hughes- lol! Plus Cozens seems pretty raw. We'll see it's a fair counterpoint and will be neat to ch CK in on in a year or two...

In my goalie starved (see: hoarded), league Knight is going to go top 5 and I completely understand why. Boom or bust swing for the fences pick.

Knight has been shooting up draft boards and I see him solidifying a top ten Avg by August. As pointed out above, every format is different but there is no denying he's going really really high. Through 20 drafts

Knight's Avg is 11.95, Hi of 3, Lo of 29 (twice, both pre NHL draft)

He has gone top ten in 11 of 20 drafts as well as top 10 in the last five I have tracked. He's ah rising folks.

As complete nerds who have our own ways of evaluating talent, we shouldn't be too surprised when a lot of our league-mates simply track closely to the NHL draft results. It's the reason why Dorofeyev seems to be a steal in every draft we've seen here so far.

Complete nerds indeed! I guess the reason why I’m “surprised” that Knight is rising so fast is there are so many offensive studs in that range not to mention the return on investment is an eternity in fantasy years. I remember in ‘17 when Oettinger was going top 20 and higher the same way Knight is going top 10. In a lot of leagues now, I think Oet could be bought for pennies on the dollar because he’s lost his new toy value. Some formats just have wonky goalie value. I’m still gonna consider Knight at 17 in my draft and I hate goalies.

Dorofeyev is an interesting case because some GMs are grabbing him right about where you’d expect before his NHL draft fall, the 20-30 range. He’s been drafted in 18 of 20 drafts, Avg of 30.58, Hi 21, Lo 40 (twice). I personally wouldn’t draft him before 30 but becomes good value after 30 imo. All depends on format as well. This is why I do my best to put context to the Avg, Hi, Lo, etc. Sorry I’m not trying to derail the thread. Please keep posting draft results as I’m tracking every one I can get my hands on. If you wana keep it private you can DM me and I’ll fire up a new thread soon so I’m not constantly bombarding this one.

I continue to be amazed how high Knight is going - especially after Bob signed in FLA. His wait time to arrive in the show doesn't justify such a high pick. A real head scratcher for sure!

He went 5th in my league (granted he was picked before Bob signed) but I didn't mind because I was 6th and picked Turcotte. With Bob in his way, unless he gets traded, you are looking at at least 5 years before he makes any type of fantasy impact.

Krebs continues to look like a great value pick in these drafts. I've hardly seen him inside the top-10, and that's good value if you're picking outside that range.
