Caufield at 7 and Byram at 11 is just hilarious. You did very well, axe.

I agree and with the grouping available, your trade down was super savvy imo. Looking forward to seeing the full results!

I love the move up for Byram, depending on the payment, that’s a major value move to get the consensus best ‘19 defender. Byram at 11 is a major steal and will set a new Lo for him in the drafts I’ve tracked. So far sixteen drafts are inputted and his Lo currently is 9 and his Avg sitting at 4.81, Hi of 3 (1 time). He’s been pretty solid in the 4 spot going there in (7/16 drafts). Getting the best goal scorer of the class in Caufield (Avg 7.25) and best defender in Byram at 7&11 is just great draft maneuvering.

Missed Axe's post, still love the move. Chytil for Byram straight up seems pretty darn good.

    Bolded my picks.
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE my first 4 picks. I tried to trade up starting at pick 7 to no avail to draft Zegras and he ended up falling to me at 10. Love Pods at 11 and I feel Newhook was the last pick in his tier. Loved that Knight, York, and Kaliyev were picked before my #15 pick so Newhook was there. I went with highest rated players in Broberg at #21 and Dorofeyev at #27. I wanted to trade the #21 pick but no one asked. Seider was on the board at #21 so I'll always compare those two in my mind but I went with the ratings. I traded a future pick to get Holmstrom at pick #38. I love those kind of risky picks. If his injury issues are behind him, that will be great value at #38. Several of my opponents groaned when I took Rees at pick #51 so that's always a good sign. Johnson had a higher rating than #53 and Firstov is just a gamble on a young, toolsy winger. If Johnson and Firstov spend a couple years in college I can get a good look before deciding to roster them or not.

Overall, I am happy with the top of my draft but not crazy about the second half of the draft. Hughes, Zegras, Pods, and Newhook is a helluva haul and completes my retool. Took a couple gambles in the bottom half of my draft. Maybe I get lucky.

Looks like you kicked ass, dude. The only pick I'm iffy on is Broberg, I probably would've taken Seider instead if you were set on a Dman but you got really good value everywhere. I'm particularly a fan of Dorofeyev at 27 and Newhook at 15. Jamieson Rees in the 50s also seems really good.

All around very nice draft. Hopefully Broberg can put it all together, he's certainly got all the raw skills.

Thanks. I agree on Broberg. That is the pick I have the most questions about. Just this morning I heard Cam Robinson politely trash him on the Keeping Karlsson podcast. Oh well. At least with Holland at the helm it's unlikely he'll be rushed.

You came out of the draft with 5 incredibly high-end skilled forwards, and a few solid lottery tickets. I'd say you did just fine.

Next pick in 6 spots and then Ill post mine up to the 4th round- but while Im here... Afayansev, McMichael, Lavoie or Pelletier next?? Im skipping Leason as this league is a quirky in that its moderate roster depth (10 forwards), short bench (5 man), deeeeep farm (50 contracts) type of system so youre essentially swinging for homeruns on every pick...

    * Going into the draft my goalie depth was good with very good prospects. My D was decen w8ith a very good pi[peline in that regard (especially after trading Oettinger+ to add Evan Bouchard)- so I had a pretty simple gameplan to just go for the best forwads available. Also its a quirky format- moderate active roster (10 forwards, 5 D, 2 G), a tiny bench (5 players including goalies), BUT a HUGE farm system (50 contracts) so I realized early on that youre swinging for the fences on every pick here so Im avoiding "mid tier" ceilings like Leason (although if he slips too far Ill take him as you never know if hes got more to give). So that was my strategy going in- its a multi cat leafue with hits, blocks, sogs and pims as categories so extra mustard on the "peripheral" stats.

    My Draft:

Caufield- over Byram may have been a mistake but like I said I feel "set" on D. Plus I thought its funny that I have Marner, Gudreau, and in very serious talks to add DeBrincat- so getting the tiny guy was a nice touch.
Zegras- trading out of what is likely a deeper draft AND adding an extra 5th was likely poor asset management but I made the swap when I was sure Id land Zegras OR Cozens. Zegras is the guy I might be able to get in most of my leagues where I placed better so I pulled the trigger. Being in a "win now" mode Im ok with this trade I think.
Brink- the boards saved me here. I was very busy with family stuff over this period and although I had bought and read the guide and did my research i felt a little "under researched" here but was confident Id get Newhook or Kaliyev as a failsafe. Of course they go 1-2 before me- lol! brink seemed like the consensus board pick when I asked for help (with Tomasino as a close second). After the fact and doing more reading Im really happy with this pick. Either guy but maybe even moreso in Brink- you have a "swing for the fences" asset which is what i was going for.
Hoglander- I had his name stashed in the back of my head but was actually all set to take Tomasino or Doro- but again they both went before my turn came to grab them. Again Im pleased with my "after the fact" research and Im hoping Hoglander has room to rise. Ive heard knocks on his hockey IQ which is troubling in regards to his ceiling but I love gambling on these high skill players whose production doesnt match their "eye test". I was all over Grigosenko for the same reasons and that pick seems to be aging nicely. Love the "edge" he brings as well- short buit thick :P

    Knight went 4th overall???? Wowzers!!

Some would disagree with taking Zegras over Cozens at that point but it's a matter of personal opinion at that point. I also am a big Hoglander fan.
