I'm always free on draft day. Hell I didn't answer the door when my sister wanted me to help move her ex's furniture last minute before the John Tavares draft. Ain't nothing going to keep me from watching the draft lmfao.

    1. Devils - Jack Hughes - He has been the top pick for the 2019 draft for several years.
    2. Rangers - Kaapo Kakko - His performance at the World Championship didn't close the gap enough on Hughes, but increased the gap between him and the next best prospects.
    3. Ducks - Bowen Byram - The best defenseman in the draft is garnering a lot of attention, Anaheim trades up to land him.
    4. Avalanche - Kirby Dach - A perfect combination of size, sakting and hockey sense.
    5. Kings - Cole Caufield - The Kings add the best goal scored in the draft to play alongside Kopitar.
    6. Wings - Alex Turcotte - A two-way star in the making for a team who still misses their two way superstar, Datsyuk.
    7. Sabres - Trevor Zegras - A playmaking centre to go with all the skill in Buffalo's forward group.
    8. Oilers - Dylan Cozens - The Oilers get a steal here by adding the ideal second line centre for behind McDavid.
    9. Blackhawks - Matthew Boldy - Moving down from 3rd overall to add Boldy looks like a genius move. The perfect compliment for DeBrincat and Strome.
    10. Canucks -Philip Broberg - The Canucks add their future #1 D-man here.
    11. Rangers - Vasily Podkolzin - Rangers are rebuiliding and can wait out the 2 year KHL contract. Talentwise they get a great player here.
    12. Wild - Peyton Krebs - A centre that is skilled and brings leadership… perfect timing with the age of Koivu and E. Staal.
    13. Kings - Victor Soderstrom - Concerned that Montreal is eying up the the all-around D-man, they trade up to get Soderstrom.
    14. Coyotes - Arthur Kaliyev - The Yotes proved last year they aren't scared to reach in the first round and they desperately need some goal scoring.
    15. Canadiens - Moritz Seider - The Canadiens need to think about their Defense, they add safety and stability here.
    16. Avalanche - Philip Tomasino - The Avs add another talented forward to their roster.
    17. Knights - Raphael Lavoie - The Knights need depth at every position, so why not add a versatile player that can playwing or center.
    18. Stars - Ryan Suzuki - The Stars add a play-making centre with high hockey IQ.
    19. Senators - Thomas Harley - The Senatros add a reliable defenseman to play alongside Chabot or Brannstrom in the future.
    20. Jets - Alex Newhook - An offensive dynamic player that the Jets can wait for while he develops physically at Boston College.
    21. Penguins - Cam York - Letang isn't getting any younger, they need an smooth-skating, offensive player.
    22. Panthers - Spencer Knight - The Panthers took a gamble to move down nine spots and they take another gamble with the best goalie in the draft.
    23. Islanders - Connor McMichael - McMichael can score and that’s exactly what the Islanders need. He also brings a solid two-way game that fits into the new system in town.
    24. Predators - Jakob Pelletier - Pelletier brings great skill and vision to the Predators forward group.
    25. Capitals - Lassi Thomson - Thomson is a smooth-skating defenseman with a heavy shot.
    26. Flames - Samuel Poulin - Flames add a hard-working power forward here with plenty of skill to boot.
    27. Lightning - Ville Heinola - Tampa is stacked on forward, they need to add defense, and they add an excellent all-around one here.
    28. Hurricanes - Brett Leason - The Canes take a chance on the late developing forward.
29.Ducks - Egor Afanasyev - The Ducks add a powerforward in hopes they can move on from Corey Perry.
    30. Bruins - Bobby Orr Brink - Its too poetic for it to not happen!
    31. Sabres - Nolan Foote- The Sabres have a lot of skill and they add another guy that likes to put the puck in the net.
    Trades :
    1. Ducks move up to 3rd overall, Chicago moves down to 9th overall and adds a 2nd round pick.
    2. Rangers trade Kreider to Flyers for the 11th overall pick and some other prospect. Flethcher is full on win now mode.
    3. The Kings use their draft cap to move up to 13th and Florida moves down to 22nd overall and adds an early 3rd round pick.

    2. Kakko (NYR) - 'cause Rangers are taking the guy left.
    3. Turcotte (CHI) - team needs C2 badly and has restocked their D nicely in last few years.
    4. Byram (COL) - Sakic is from BC... and BC boys like their own. LHD future pairing with Makar, um yes.
    5. Zegras (LA) - Unless Byram is still here (unlikely).
    6. Caufield (*DET) - I actually can see Detroit/Yzerman trading down here, because I think they'd be happy with Broberg. I also think the league has seen enough of Debrincat success to up-value Caufield to here.
    7. Cozens (BUF) - Botterill is a big western Canadian, so it won't surprise me to see him go with either Cozens or Dach. I think the emphasis on good skaters pushes Cozens to be drafted first.
    8. Krebs (EDM) - In the ever-search for a McDavid click-winger, they need somebody that can keep pace. So I like Krebs over Dach here.
    9. Boldy (ANA) - This seems like a good fit for Anaheim. I always find their picks to be the most unsexy of NHL teams.
    10. Broberg (VAN) - The last two VAN first round picks were a Swede and a defensemen - that seems to have left a good taste in everybody's mouth.
    11. Soderstrom (PHI) - Apparently Chuck Fletcher thinks RH defensemen are this uber-fantastic commodity... so, this is what Chuck is gonna do.
    12. Dach (MIN) - He's the one guy I think could slide, and he'll be called "best on the board" here, so off he goes.
    13. York (FLA) - One of the teams that might draft positionally - since they have nice young Fs, will probably sign Bob & Panarin.
    14. Podkolzin (ARI) - Possible drop only because the teams prior have made their Russian draft risks in prior years and I'm not sure any of them (Kaprizov-MIN, Denisenko-FLA) want to be on the hook for a 2nd guy. Chayka has no "Russia Risk"... yet.
    15. Harley (MON) - Montreal could use a solid D prospect in their pipeline.

I missed the valuation on Dach (who CHI loved at #3) and Podkolzin (who went #10 to VAN).
Bobby McKenzie was a treat to listen to doing his analysis with NHL-Sports last night - he really nailed a lot of predictions.
And he made good points about Russians always eventually coming over when Podk was up at #10 - predicting that.
I think he predicted that FLA might go with Knight at their #13 pick.

    I got 1-2 (obv), 4, 7, 11 correct.
But the most infuriating one was #11. PHI is on the board at #11... and Soderstrom is there.
And Fletcher effin TRADES IT AWAY. Yes he got a #45 back (which he should've had his pick in that range anyways, but he Braun-ed it away).

So Arizona gets the #11 pick and Chayka (who loves D) - goes and takes Soderstrom.
I said it on the WHL Chatboard... that Fletcher thought Soderstrom would slide... but he WAS WRONG.

Then Boldy (who himself would've been a great choice for PHI's "style") goes...
Then Knight - who PHI could afford to pass on considering...
And then Caufield is STILL THERE... but of course Fletcher has his damn heart set on drafting a D and has to settle for Cam York.
Now... I like Cam York, but drafting a D there is evidence enough that Fletcher wanted Soderstrom and botched that up.
Soderstrom >> York, as far as I'm concerned.

    Way to go Fletcher.
Other than DET's "reach" on Seider, it seemed like a lot of teams were very happy getting the guy they took.
I didn't see too many "ah shit" faces... other than Fletcher.

I’m so happy that Caufield slide!!
Kotkaniemi and Caufield will be dangerous in 2-3 years
