That's a lot of money for a player that has cracked 50 points just once in his career. He must be a better player than what I think he is. Can't be good for Nolan Patrick's value either, if he is in fact ready for the 2C role.

I was afraid that when Fletcher said he’d be very aggressive this offseason that he really meant reckless and stupid.
I’m currently having flashbacks to the Bryzgalov signing. Holmgrom jr is really set on ****ing up all the patience Hextall showed which was approved by Snider in the first place

I was so excited about the flyers under Ron hextLl and had amassed many of their players. Now I just wanna run away from all of them. Fletcher is doing a very quick job of turning the flyers into the wild. Niskanen, Braun and now Hayes.

The Niskanen and Braun deals you can make an argument for but this one is just a plain bad signing. No other way to look at it.

I gotta completely agree with you...that Hayes contract must be the new "worse contract in the league".
I thought the Evander Kane contract was bad (and it still is bad). Some GMs are so short-sighted. They way overpay and don't think beyond the next 2-3 years. Evander Kane, JvR, now Hayes...they are all overpaid now, but in 5 years time those contracts are going to be the anchors that the Bobby Ryan and Corey Perry contracts are today.
GMs are like politicians and only care about keeping their job for the next few years, and long-term will be someone else's problem to deal with. And who knows...maybe by then there will be another expansion team to bail them out, or changes to the CBA that enables teams to more easily buy-out bad contracts, or the salary cap will get so high that teams can absorb these stupid contracts.
