Default 2019-2020 Salary Cap Could be Lower than Anticipated

Reports indicated that multiple teams fear that the upcoming salary cap for the 2019-2020 season could fall somewhere below $82 million.

This will be hurtful for teams in a cap crunch, although it may also slightly lower some of the contracts to be signed as the basis seems to be more and more on a cap percentage.

I also read today the cap may stay low for the next couple years in anticipation of negotiations of the next TV deal that's coming up.

before you know it, we'll be talking in cap percentages rather than salaries.

    I would love this!!

As a manager I would also love this....there would be no more moving targets and waiting games to see what the cap is. I would always have a target of 100%.

Bushleague. Three days before the draft and less than two weeks until free agency period opens and managers, players, agents and fans don’t know what the cap will be. A bunch of clowns running this show.

Presuming it does come in lower than "announced", bet that's the last time Bettman opens his mouth in December.

Announcing next season’s Salary Cap on Saturday, THE DAY AFTER THE DRAFT BEGINS, is so NHL. How does this even happen?

It was starting to come out last week, early last week, that the cap would be 82mill and not 83mill. So If it's out there for us, you know it was out there for GMs.

Right, but no official number has been released. Managers have to be within a certain budget, yet they don’t know what that budget is.

Oh yeah, it's quite bush league. But they were probably operating within a 500,000 number. Not 1.5mill

Yeah true, just ridiculous that teams are going into the draft, where a lot of potential trades are discussed and some made, without knowing the actual number.

Just another thing the NHL just can’t get right.

That's going to mess with a lot of teams and fantasy leagues.

Shipping out Colin Miller to NJ for a pick would solve it.

The Sharks are likely going to need more than the 5 forwards they currently have signed so they have their work cut out as well.
