    Default Visiting Montreal

Dobberites, you have never steered me wrong!
The wife and I are heading to Montreal for a couple of days (I have never been).

I am absolutely overwhelmed by the amount of articles RE: FOOD lol
We want to eat GOOD food and don't mind paying for it but we just have no idea where the hell to go.

Is there truly a BEST poutine or smoked meat place in MTL?

What can we do during the day (Friday + Saturday)?

    Thanks in advance!

My advice, the dirtier the place looks the better it's gonna taste.
My two personal favorite poutines are from #1 AA and #2 La Ligne Rouge

Most deli/dinners serve smoked meat, but if you want to go to the source check out Schwartz's Deli or Dunn's

What type of food do you like?
Depending on that I can post some suggestions.

As for Friday / Saturday take a look at what festivals or shows are in town, otherwise there are a ton of good bars downtown in different neighborhoods.
Hike Mount Royal, visit the old port, get a Bixi bike and ride down the canal.

    You really can't go wrong.

Except for "underground city", this is a misconception and a tourist attraction, it's really just a big grouping of underground malls that are all connected together.

My current go to bar is Le Trefle and for good craft beer Microbrasserie 4 Origines or Terrase St Ambroise

Also, take advantage of the Metro system, but don't bother with the buses IMO.
Download the Transit app though if you do plan on using the buses.
We have Uber and there's also Teo for taxis

Schwartz for SURE. Also if you go into the store and not the restaurant part, you can get Montreal smoked meat in a vacuum sealed bag where you just need to steam it at home. Highly suggest that. Or their "steak seasoning". It was REALLY good on a steak. I die everytime I go there. It's so good.

I go to Fairmount Bagels, and I have gone to St-Viateur Bagel. Both are really good.

    Rent bikes to get around

We went to Burger Bar Crescent and it was good.

    Old Montreal was great

I wish I could have gone to Schwartz more.

Yeah...they aren't sugar coating anything there. I went once and we had a group of 4, and they sat me down separate of the other 3 and said "you are here".

I go into the place where you just take the sandwiches to go now. It's in my opinion a better way to do it after experiencing the sit-down portion of the restaurant.

Was born there... and have family still living there...maybe that's why i've denounced the Habs and am a Firm Leaf fan. in any event... Can't argue with the food.
In addition to everything above... if you can... you should really check out the Bar B Barn (this place has been around since I was a Kid... 40+ years and running. you won't be disappointed.

Tons of good info, the wife wanted to go to the underground city so I'm glad you said that haha
We like a ton of different types of food I guess it's hard to make a suggestion without more details - any like high-end gastropub food or anything like that?
We'd also be interested in something fancy potentially, a good steakhouse maybe

    Do not drive!!!!

The city is a construction nightmare and parking is horrible.
Definitely Uber and don't be afraid to contest the charges for the route if it takes way longer, I do this often.

Buses are ok but they can be crowded and they stop and go suddenly.
Someone should be kind enough to offer you wife a seat, but people can useless sometimes.

I'll post a couple restaurants I like tomorrow when I'm at my desktop.

Get you and your wife the Uber/Lyft apps as if you share codes to each other you'll both get $10 off.

Lyft is currently cheaper in Hamilton/Burlington/Toronto area than Uber, but instead of a 4minute wait, it's a 10minute wait. I'm constantly getting random $4 off coupons on Lyft too.
