As a Joe Pavelski fan, this is the "so you're telling me there's a chance" moment!
As a Flyers fan, 41st overall for a year of Justin Braun, WTF. (Do the Flyers not have 7D for next year??? Provorov-Sanheim, Gost-Niskanen, Schlemko-P.Myers, Hagg)

BREAKING: The #Flyers have acquired defenseman Justin Braun from San Jose in exchange for a second-round pick in this year's draft (41st overall) and third-round pick in the 2020 NHL Draft.

Philly D depth chart just got a bit more interesting. Gudas out, Niskanen and Braun in.
Sharks are likely going to promote from within. I’d expect them to resign Heed shortly?
They've gotten a lot older on D in the last week too... Wonder what Hextall is thinking right now.

Lot of chatter that Gost is getting moved. The Flyers are definitely shopping him. Somebody is getting moved out, we can safely say. The Flyers are the big wheeler-dealers so far and thats not likely to change yet.
Niskanen and Braun each pairing with one of the youngsters Provy or Sanheim makes a lot of sense from a protecting your young goalie and making the playoffs standpoint. That's two top 4 D from winning franchises they just added.
Myers-Hagg as a 3rd pair has some interesting potential as well. Schlemko is a fine #7 D.
More importantly though, who moves into the top 4 for SJS? That individual will be playing with Burns or Karlsson which should be a nice spot.
That's one way to phrase it.
Here's another.
The Flyers just acquired the worst shot-differential defensemen from two eliminated playoff teams.
Five-on-five:
Niskanen was -60... in just 7gp!!!
Braun was -22... the only SJ D-man in the negatives!!
Both guys are too slow/immobile for today's NHL.

No silver lining.
Fletcher is playing the "look active" role. The PHI owner reps are dummies who expect the team to "win now"... because so many of the Flyer fans are short-on-patience dummies who want to "win now".
They won't know if these are good moves or bad moves... but, case-in-point, Fletcher can say things like "We got some veterans from winning teams to help our youngsters".
And an owner & fans will say "That sounds good".
The only silver lining I can see is that having Niskanen (who does have a cup) at $5m and Braun (who has come close, twice) at $4m, might give Fletcher some leverage to discuss salaries with Provorov & Sanheim by saying "Well, we are paying our veterans about $5m each, so we feel it is fair to offer you guys about $5m or $6m each."
Psh, we'll see.
I'm not fond of any of Fletcher's moves so far... he's just "looking busy".
I'm 50-50 on Ghost. He's become a solid player... I just don't think he should be on PP1.
But he's solid value on his cap number.
Hard not to be a glass half empty sort with the recent history of the Flyers.
Holmgrem drove the team in to salary cap hell.
Holmgrem moves into a different position within the organization.
Hextall takes over as GM and makes a lot of solid salary cap moves to get the team to a great spot.
Holmgrem's impatience takes over and fires Hextall and hires a GM that did a worse job than Holmgrem.
Definitely a glass half empty after Hextall was doing such a nice job at filling everything up.

I think part of the good news here is that the Flyers didnt really give anything up, Gudas and a couple of picks isnt overly lamentable.
Maybe they're going after Ehlers with one of their young D?
