Is she starting her residency in New York? It really doesn’t say. That would put the number of teams at minimum to 3, which is more than 1 or 2, not to mention the other very close options.

The Trouba-Hayes exchange over the last couple months was definitely a win for the Rangers, but calling this statement extreme hyperbole would be underselling it.

I'll admit, I'm having a little fun with the hyperbole. It's the offseason and I need to find hockey-related joy where I can and I meant my original statement in a slightly tongue-in-cheek manner (damn you limits of text on the internet for conveying tone). That said it's hard to paint this series of deals as anything but a win-win for Gorton. He turned an expiring contract and an overmatched 3rd pairing D-man into a top-4 defensive anchor and a solid energy line player with the flexibility to either sign a long term deal or flip again at the trade deadline for likely as much or more than he paid.

When the going rate for a right handed D-man (any RHD will do, really) is a league MVP going the other way and the fact that this deal looks even worse from the Winnipeg side (essentially a 5th round pick and Pionk for Trouba & Lemieux, ouch) I'll take a minute to enjoy my team being newsworthy for good reason for a few seconds

had hayes worked out better this would all be fine. the jets getting bounced earlier than expected and then not resigning hayes makes these trades look bad for them.

Oh man... I could actually see that. But it's not a bet I'd take.

He becomes the #1Dman in NY.. But also has taken a 3-4 year regression in terms of talent around him.
Rangers are trying to build what the Jets already have.

They’re betting on Niku and Stanley but neither is ready for north of 22 mins against nhl competition. As a Helley owner I’m a little distraught.

uhh mika zibanejad is pretty good, and they have some very good prospects who can play down the middle: Chytil, Lias Andersson, Brett Howden. They aren't exactly desperate for centers. Kakko, as well, while a much better option on the wing is capable of playing center. The Rangers are in great shape basically up and down the roster going forward.
