Brossoit VS Francouz [REP]

Who do you prefer long term and who do think has the best chance at being an NHL starter? (regardless of their team's setup)

Laurent Brossoit - 26 year old, up and down from the AHL to NHL, who's carved out a role as the Jets backup. Good for about 20 quality starts.

or

Pavel Francouz - 29 year old KHL, and recently AHL, All-star. Potentially the Avalanche's back-up, depending on what happens with Varlamov

Gun to my head I go with Francouz. Assuming he'll start the year as the Av's back-up (and I do) I give the edge to him for no reason other than the contract of the guy in front of him.

Hellebuyck's contract is nearly double what Grubauer's is and will hold the crease for him if he falters. The same cannot be said for Grubauer, if he stumbles and Francouz steps up the net could be more or less Francouz's by Christmas. The thought of Brossoit leap-frogging Hellboy is damn near unfathomable. I'm also apprehensive that Grubauer can handle a full-workload this upcoming season as he's never played more than 50 games in a season professionally at any level while Hellebuyck has player 3 straight seasons at the NHL level with over 50 games, the past 2 with over 60 games played.

For what it's worth, I own both these guys in a dynasty league where my goalies are declining and I very much hope one of my younger guys turns into a bonafide starter soon. I regularly make sacrifices to the fantasy-hockey gods in their names.

I'd gamble on Francouz

I don't think Brossoit has much starter upside, especially in Winnipeg, so I'd go Francouz by default and hope for the best. Goalies are so wild, you're basically just hoping to hit the lottery.

Brossoit isn't completely dead as a potential starter. Guys come out of nowhere all the time. It's like Francouz has around 20% chance and Brossoit around 10%. Give or take for both.

As mentioned goalies are wacky and it's getting more random in recent years.

I'd rather Francouz. Odds are Col. gives Grub a lighter workload than Wgp will Helle.
