Id rather have a few NHL players like Getzlaf than prospects. I would hope you'd be able to move a player like Getzlaf for pick(s)

Your picks are the most valuable assets you have so treat them as such. You are indeed a few years away

I agree with EB 0n picks, I would probably keep Kase as well. He has top line upside. This team should get yo competing sooner. You can also look at trading guys like Schwartz if he starts hot, or gets hot, for A blue chip prospects. Trade for injured stars from contending teams - speed up your rebuild.

In my situation, who do you think I should target for the upcoming draft? More specifically my 3rd/8th overall picks.

What kind of stats do you use? I suspect this is not a multicat league because Jenner, Kreider and Hornqvist are available.

    This would be mine team:

C - Donato, Getzlaf (Trade asset), Necas, Suzuki
LW - Schwartz, N.Schmaltz, Gusev, Farabee
RW - Batherson, Kase, Kyrou, Terry
D- Fabbro, Fox, Hronek, Ty? Smith, Severson, K'A Miller,
    Bench - Hayton, Wahlstrom, Sandin
G - Koskinen, Mrazek, Samsonov, Shesterkin

And I would consider these guys also Parise, Zuccarello, Nyquist, Pacioretty, Bertuzzi, Vrana, Colin?? White, Korpisalo, Varlamov They should have some value for teams fighting for playoff and the title.
If you have time until July, see what happens with Korpisalo in CBJ.

I would target the best F with the third (I think Turcotte is your answer) and with the 8th pick you should draft another high quality F. If the guy with the 4th or 5th overall likes Byram then maybe you should swap picks with them.

Why would you drop Sandin if you are looking 5 years down the road?

There are more than a few players that you should add Just for the fact that they will be valuable trade chips for you during next season. If you don't add them the other teams will, for free. There are also some players I would pick up and hold onto.

    Getzlaf
    Zuccarello
    Kreider
    Pacioretty
    Schwartz
    Vrana
    Bertuzzi
    Buchnevich
    Petry
    Spurgeon
    Mrazek
    Campbell
    PAT QUINN MEMORIAL CUP
    Clouds of Blood
    12 Team Head-to-Head
    G-A-PPP-SOG-FW-HIT-BLK / W-GAA-SV%-SV
    24 Man Roster
    Keep: 6 Forwards, 4 Defencemen, 1 Goaltender & 1 Prospect
    Keepers:
    C - McDavid, Matthews, Aho
    LW - Panarin
    RW - Pastrnak
D - Hedman, Hamilton, Doughty, Burns
    G - Markström
    P - Cayden Primeau

I'm going to skip the prospects, but you have a number you definitely want to keep, and those have been covered.

If I had that list, I'd make sure to grab any viable NHL goalie on the list. It's one thing you can load up on and deal fairly reliably. Yes, situations are sketchy, but sketchy is good if it help you get a starting NHL goalie or two for free from cuts. Note what you did with Rinne. You don't have to go into the season with the team you assemble. Can you talk to other owners and see who from this pool that they would be willing to trade you future picks?

I'd probably want all of these guys, but you probably can't hold that many, so I'd prioritize the younger guys:
    Mrazek
    Campbell
    Georgiev

Lower priority, but these guys should have value:
    Greiss
    Koskinen
    Varlamov

For Forward & Defense, you have a lot of options. I would want these guys as trade bait or help as younger players, however, the format is still a bit sketchy for me, maybe I missed that post:

    Petry
    Zuccarello

    Bertuzzi
    Kase
    Athanasiou
    Bjorkstrand
    Vrana
    Galchenyuk
    Buchnevich
    Donato

I'm definitely not looking to hold any real old guys to sell for assets as forwards, that market is potentially non-existent. The list you have is pretty deep with younger guys, and they should command about the same in return as a much older guy who is about the same overall production.
