Lou didn’t get enough bad contracts out of his system in Toronto so now he’s doing his damage on the island.

have to say... this isn't an awful deal. He would have gotten more as a UFA.

As for Lee... Nelson/Eberle both locked up... they've got the $$ for Lee. Just a matter if Lee wants to stay.

My predictions had market value for him at $5M x 5yrs. So it's pretty close really.

to me this deal is on the bubble of bad and good.

he certainly could have gotten more as a UFA so good for NYI, but that doesn't mean that $5MM is a good deal..bad for NYI

Lou buying low. Smart move. He doesn't get this price if it wasn't for the bad season last year, which appears to be an aberration if you look at Eberle's career.
Lou should have taught Dubas how to negotiate before he left.

    Pretty reasonable deal, honestly.

Eberle's not really old, and he's been pretty solid over his career before this year. Maybe you only want to go 4 years, but sometimes you have to give a little.

had no idea there was mutual interest from both parties to get an extension done until a week ago .

I think it's fair for both. He wanted to stay but really hasn't lived up to the contract gave him so a slight pay cut isn't completely unreasonable.

It’s the going rate for a top 6, 50 point winger.

Problem is he's 29 and didn't score 50. I think he's better than what he showed but how will the contract be viewed if he alternates a decent year with a subpar one throughout the contract?

Reasonable deal. Definitely risky though. If he's not putting up points he's not really useful in other ways.
