Default Trading 23,26th overall for top 16 pick next year

16 team dynasty salary cap league. I have 22, 23,26th overall in this years prospect draft.
I have an offer in for a first round pick in next years draft for my 23,26 this year - most likely will be 8-12th overall given that it’s a fairly strong team (he is drafting 9th this year)
I’m not sure if next years draft is felt to be especially strong. I likely would make deal for 23,26th for this years 9OA.

(To clarify- it is indeed a first year prospect draft- ie- eligibility same as real NHL draft)

I would rather trade 23 and 26 for 9th this year.

It sucks to wait to draft players but I would make it if it was me. Plus as the year goes on that 1st round pick will have more trade value then prospects you will draft at 23 and 26.

Of course I take that your draft is only from 2019 draft class. If you include older prospects and deeper pool of player that can change my opinion.

I would rather have two darts at 23 and 26 then one dart at any pick after the top 7 or 8. If the pick you were receiving was guaranteed to be in the top 6, then I would make the move but because you think it's going to be between 8 and 12 I would keep the two picks. This is not even taking into account the value of the picks being a year earlier. That adds significant value to the two picks in this year's draft.

Here's an interesting article that discusses the relative value of draft picks from a few years ago. https://www.nhlnumbers.com/2016/05/0...is-it-worth-it

Here's the comparison of the NHL draft picks at 10 vs 23+26 over the past few years:

2018: Evan Bouchard vs Isac Lundestrom + Jacob Bernard-Docker
2017: Owen Tippett vs Pierre-Olivier Joseph + Jake Oettinger
2016: Tyson Jost vs Henrik Borgstrom + Tage Thompson
2015: Mikko Rantanen vs Brock Boeser + Noah Juulsen
2014: Nick Ritchie vs Conner Bleackley + Nikita Scherbak (Pastrnak went 25)
2013: Valeri Nikushkin vs Andre Burakovsky + Shea Theodore
2012: Slater Koekkoek vs Mike Matheson + Brendan Gaunce
2011: Jonas Brodin vs Joe Morrow + Phillip Danault
2010: Dylan McIlrath vs Mark Pysyk + Evgeny Kuznetsov

I make that deal based on asset value. That 2020 1st has more future trade value than 2 x 2019 2nds. Easy accept.

i drafted Dylan Larkin with 27th pick overall in his draft day. in our league there are more player available then just current draft year, basically everybody that has not played a game in NHL but has been drafted at some point is fir game but still it shows you that you can find very nice players with first 20-30 picks. I would keep what you have .

I'd do that trade. No one likes to wait but I'd like my chances of getting a quality kid at 8-12 more than getting one in the mid 20s.
