I like Hertl, but it's close.
Points only full keeper with no positional requirements for forwards.
Who is the better long-term option?
Cheers!

(No I don't have a hockey problem...)
I'll second hertl. There will be no opportunity question marks next year with hertl. It should be close regardless and if Meier does get the opportunity then he could surpass him but it should be close enough so I'd take the surer thing in hertl.

Man... this is a tough one. Hertl in points, by a hair. Meier in goal scoring leagues and MC leagues by a hair.
Almost interchangeable points wise

Hertl for me, not close.
Tomas Hertl is a phenomenal player.
He's a PP1 lock-spot for future of SJ (with Couture, Burns, X, Y).
I like Meier, but I could also see him being Nik Ehlers.
Big question is: who is on SJ roster for 2019-2020... and does Meier have a spot on PP1?
That's big points for SJ players: PP1.
It's only close, IMO, if both Hertl and Meier are on PP1 together.
Id probably trade my Meier for Hertl. Doubt I would do it the other way though. Looks like Hertl has figured it out the NHL and his knee isnt a problem anymore. Love the kid.
I actually prefer Meier, but I agree that it is close.
I think it is safe to say that both players are going to continue receiving prime opportunity in San Jose regardless of what happens with Pavelski, Karlsson, and (to a lesser extent) Thornton. I agree that Hertl may have the upper hand on PP1, if Pavs, Karlsson, and Thornton all re-sign with San Jose, but Meier will get his points no matter what happens and I think he will eventually (if not already) surpass Pavelski, Kane, and Thornton on the depth chart for PP1 time. I think he might already be more offensively-gifted that Couture, tbh, though Couture's spot is more secure due to the position he plays. They need him on the top PP for faceoffs, etc.
My guess next year, assuming everyone re-signs, is that the top unit will be: Pavelski, Hertl, Meier, Couture, and Burns.
Second unit: Thornton, Kane, X player, Y player, Karlsson.

Don't forget about LaBanc here. He's on PP1 now for a reason.
Points only I take Hertl here and I'm with the majority that I think it's a pretty close call.
Without me, it's only "aweso".

I still prefer Meier. I don't think we've seen the best of him yet.

It'll be hard to tell, moving forward guys like Burns/Pavs/Thornton won't be contributing as much to the team due to their age, so what Hertl is doing now at 25 might not be matched by Meier by the time he gets 25 with whatever the SJS team looks like around him.
I'd probably rather own Hertl moving forward as his short term future is a little clearer than Meiers.
