Default Suzuki Ranked as 9th Forward Prospect

Curious about the sudden increase in Nick Suzuki's ranking.
What's changed recently to warrant this big jump? Is this solely based on his recent play against London?
Is there a lot of opportunity for him to see 1st PP minutes in Montreal?
He hasn't even turned pro yet, and scoring under the 2 P/G average mark isn't terribly impressive for the OHL.
Why so much love for Suzuki? What has he done for us lately?

TSN has him ranked 22nd in their last mock draft (May 9th).

it all depends on who's rankings you're looking at.

If he's 9th, I assume your looking at some version of North American prospects only.

I'm referring to Dobber's prospect ranking for May.
Dobber had him at 26th and 27th in March and April, respectively.

    Oh... duh...

I'd take a look at who's graduated from the prospect list from March/April. That often explains a lot. A few big names disappeared from those lists.

And '19 draft class hasn't been added as of yet.

    Nick Suzuki, I presume.

He has dominated the OHL playoffs. I suppose that is a decent reason to bump him up. Also a great opportunity to grab a meaningful role at C there for one or more prospects in the Habs system. The trade to Montreal accelerates Suzuki's timeline.

The May rankings are usually soft because Dobber does some purging and the new draft class isnt installed yet. Given the talent at F this year I would expect the top 15 Fs to all make the top 50 prospects in July. That will account for nearly a third.

Luca's on the right path. It's due to a few factors. Solid production with Guelph, MTL not having an excess of options up front to block him, graduating other prospects off the list, etc.

If you look at the actual rating number, he was 66 in January, and is 73 now. That's not a large jump by any means. His stock is rising, sure, a good OHL playoffs will do that, but it's not going through the stratosphere or anything.

It also speaks to the lack of game-changers in the list. I mean, Troy Terry is ranked #1. He's a good prospect but not a future superstar.

Suzuki has had a tremendous OHL playoffs. HUGE.
I think that's a good tell on his readiness for NHL.
And, yes, other ("graduated) prospects are not cluttering up the top of the prospect list.

I think the top could be shuffled around a lot.
I would probably have Necas, Zadina, Borgstrom, Suzuki, Glass, and Frost near the top.
I'm not as high on Troy Terry as others.

Ryan Suzuki is in this year's draft. Nick was drafted to Knights and shipped to MTL in patches trade.

Nick Suzuki finished OHL MVP Playoffs with 42 points. Only notable names to have similar playoffs performance in OHL were Connor McDavid (49 i think), Scheifele (41) and Mitch Marner (44), Debrincat (38). Even Hall finished only with 33 & 36 pts in his years in OHL playoffs.

although it doesnt mean OHL performance playoffs = elite NHL player, its a good list to compare and might be one of the top reasons why Suzuki has made a jump in ranking.

Take a look at these threads I created years ago. Both based around Suzuki

My opinion of him has only gotten better.
