We had Meier sign to a team-friendly deal, and Aho sign the offer sheet, but neither of those deals really set the market (they were anomalies). I can see Point signing first, but again his contract won't set the market. Point will, imo, sign a team-friendly deal due to low taxes. Everyone on Tampa seems to sign team-friendly deals, plus there is virtually no way he earns more than Kucherov ($9.5 AAV). I predict Point signs at around $8 to $8.5 AAV, which is well below market value but is in line with Tampa's team salary structure.

Agreed. Unless, of course, you can get Marner's camp to smarten up and sign for under $10. And NOT a 5 year deal. Then YOU set the market. And at that point, Dubas doesn't care about the market cause he's got all his forward ducks and can focus on D.

Wouldn't it be something if this was 100% hyperbole and Marner was simply sitting back waiting to see what Rantanen signs for and asks for 1m per more? And has no intention of leaving Tor. #mediasucks

Apparently Columbus is confirmed as one of the teams to have checked in. Not much on the details, but interesting that they'd consider moving 4 of their 1sts.

seems most teams are convinced Dubas will move other players in order to match any offer.
A 3 or 4 year deal would be the smartest move. Say he takes a bit under Tavares money - his contract comes up again before JT, AM or WN... Cap would be higher, he could really cash in by being first back to the bank

What I gathered from Friedman's statements on the podcast was that Columbus thought about it, but felt Marner didn't want to do a long term deal with anyone on an offer sheet. Marner is looking for 6 years or less, and the Blue Jackets don't want to spend 4 first rounders offer sheeting Marner for a deal less than 7 years in term.
FWIW they also talked about the Isles offering 12.5m on a deal but Friedman didn't seem too sure about that happening

Let me ‘splain....on second thought there is no time...let me sum up....
Some teams may or may not have spoken to Marner and/or his agent about an offer sheet of some term (probably 7 years...maybe) and some dollar amount...maybe the Leafs but maybe not. Marner and/or his agent may have said they did or did not want some term for some dollar amount probably. Meanwhile the Leafs may or may not be willing/able to offer some term or some dollar amount that may (or may NOT) be similar or different to what some teams may (or may NOT) be offering in a rumored/suggested offer sheet. This is worse than when Deep Thought came up with 42 as “the answer”. Call me when he signs something with someone...maybe.

I think friedman said isles were examining cap implications down the road if they offered that number to mitch .Pulock,Barzal,D. Toews are rfa next summer.
