You can’t seriously think Marner’s reputation and image hasn’t significantly changed among the majority of Leafs fans this summer. That’s simply not how tribalism works.

If it’s a leverage ploy by the Marner camp it’s so ham fisted and stupid it is laughable. The idea that he’s going to play in Switzerland is absolutely preposterous. If I’m Dubas I’m thinking “Really? This is best you can come up with? I’m dealing with an amateur clown show...”. So lame. If he really wants to leverage the Leafs sign an offer sheet. And there is no way Marner’s image hasn’t been tarnished over this. He looks like a jerk. Just like Nylander did. The average fan sees these guys getting paid millions to play hockey who hold out for a few more millions as spoiled a-holes.

FWIW, what Marner is doing is totally fine and shouldn’t be backlashed by fans, that’s just not how tribalism works.

I didn’t know much about it when I made first comment. But he is not looking to play there but to train with them and it’s only a backup plan in case he does not show up to camp...

Agreed. I like Twitter a lot but if you go off into the weeds it's ugly. It's the easiest place for people to dump random garbage comments with no consequence. It only really represents the thoughts of a very vocal minority of fans.
