Seriously though, the whole hockey world had to see this coming a mile away. Great news for the Wings and their organization. It will be interesting to see who he retains from Holland's group and who he brings in to help him.

No playoffs. Miss on winning the lotto. Still lots of work to be done to get back to being competitive.
But all of a sudden, with Yzerman coming home, it feels like a return to glory is possible again.
Huge day for the Winged Wheel, both psychologically and upgrading a critical need.

Nobody is surprised by this. Strong move for the Wings even if I'm not as in love with Yzerman as everyone else. The Wings were a solid team late in the year and they have interesting pieces in place.

Great move for Wings fans. This is definitely something we've all seen coming for a long time and really does feel right. No doubt in a couple of years, the Red Wings will be competing for the division again. So now there's optimism in Detroit and Florida to go along with 3 of the top young teams in the league with Tampa/Boston/Toronto. Hard to see a bright future for Montreal/Ottawa/Buffalo these days with competition that stacked.

Lots of work to do with that roster, but theirs bright spots. 3 2nd round picks in this draft is one of them to go along with a 6th overall

The man who was the franchise returns to rebuild the franchise. As others have said, no surprise here.

Of fantasy relevance here: Yzerman's history shows he's going to give new players a real chance to become NHL contributors. Even the UDFAs. So if you see players showing good signs in the AHL or elsewhere bump him up your list.
