Yes, sadly there was a failure of support and mental health awareness there that happens all too frequently.

It’s time to do away with fighting in hockey altogether. It’s barbaric, dangerous and unnecessary.

I am guilty of liking the odd fight but in what other sport outside of MMA or Boxing is it generally accepted to fight? It's crazy when you think about it. Openly allowing assault on the ice, just because it's a big part of the game or was a big part of the game. In other sports your out or suspended. In hockey we have a penalty specifically for the act and your usually back in the game 5 minutes later to do it again if you so please.

In my opinion, hockey is a referee's game. They dictate just about everything during a game. They call what they want to call, when they want to call it. They do not have very good discretion most if the time. They break fights when they want. Infractions happen all game long so they get to pick and choose when to call a penalty either to even things up or one for the home team. There was a fight last month where it was clear that the kid had enough against the veteran but the official let it go for another 40 or so seconds. They need better discretion. But like ive said, this is a league problem because officials go unpunished for their incompetence....and yeah i know its the toughest sport to officiate no doubt.

To not cut the reason for it off at the source is not the way to fix it.

It's like constantly replacing an engine in a car instead of performing oil changes regularly.

I really hope you're being facetious. I've always liked players who can mix it up but contribute in other ways, but John Scott was a waste of space. Watching him in that Chicago-Vancouver series in 2012 was torture. He brought nothing but the threat of a goal against or an impending penalty.
