    I think he's in that 3-8 group after Hughes/Kakko.

I agree. I definitely wouldn't take him over Hughes and Kakko. I probably wouldn't take him over whoever Colorado and Chicago take, as those players are likely to step into the lineup right away AND play with talented players. So maybe 5th? Unless Gusev can displace Reilly Smith (which isn't unreasonable, but still needs to be done) he'll be playing L3 and PP2 at best.

Agree with this. But I think Top six winger at some point with probably good PP usage as that is one of his strengths.

    Yes.

Most regard Kaprizov as the superior prospect, long term.

3rd seems about right. It's unlikely any of the guys after the top-2 make the jump straight to the NHL, and even if they do, it's more likely to play a Michael Rasmussen type season, so Gusev is expected to be more relevant next season. And his offensive upside is similar to the guys in that range anyways.

I would start looking at Gusev around pick #11.

I am not as high on him as most people around here as I do not see the KHL as a very good league. Very few of the top scorers in that league have come to the NHL and been top 6 forwards. The KHL leading scorers list is covered with failed NHL players such as Nigel Dawes, Linus Omark, Linden Vey.

Looks like Gusev was released from his KHL contract and will sign with Vegas this weekend. How he plays in the playoffs will have a huge impact on where he's drafted in this years rookie drafts

So what if Batherson was in the equation would you take him before or after him, they will both be available in my draft

Gusev is full projection. He’s easily the best player in the KHL and the best player outside the NHL. It’s unlikekt he will produce like Panarin because he won’t have the role, opportunity, or talent. He could be anything from Panarin to Cervenka for fantasy value. A reasonable projection is Dadanov, but the real answer is we just don’t know. He’s worth picking up over any Russian prospect because we know he is coming over. For fantasy value, his range is Panarin to Shipychov. Anyone that says differently is lying to you. But I’m taking a shot on him

Gusev might have the highest range of outcomes of any player we’ve ever seen coming from the KHL, because Panarin extended the top and and Shipychov extended the bottom end. His success might fully depend on PP deployment and displacing Reilly Smith. In terms of this years draft, you have to take Hughes and Kakko before Gusev. After that, it depends on your risk profile. Anywhere from 3 to 15 is reasonable depending on if you think he will be Panarin or Shipyachov

Hughes, KK, Gusev. Experienced player trumps the kids outside of gamebreaker talent.
