I saw rumors about this on eliteprospects.com

Probably a year in Stockton awaits, hope he doesnt mind the stench which is awful. Have to roll the windows up and hold your breath on that stretch of I-5.

So what's the deal with this guy? Does anyone have any insight into what he brings / his potential place within the organizational depth chart for goaltenders? It seems like Gillies and McDonald are both on the way out with the Flames, so I could see him splitting with Parsons for AHL Stockton, but I really have no idea what the organization is thinking with these guys.

    Any thoughts would be appreciated

Correct spelling is 'Zagidulin". He seems like a decent prospect, and given that the Flames only have a total of six goalies under contract (if you include RFA Rittich), and none past the upcoming season pending Rittich's new deal, the door is wide open if he can prove himself in Stockton this year. Here's the best article I found, with a quote from a European hockey writer named Aivis Kalniņš:

This fellow is very good at hockey. But on a more serious note - pretty athletic for his size. Overall calm goalie. I would call him a great project. Not sure if he has the ceiling to be an NHL starter but if developed properly he should be an amazing 1A/1B option. Source:

Throw enough crap against the wall and sooner or later, some of it will stick. The story of every NHL team looking for their next starter.

Keep 20/25 at seasons end, Cut 5 to FA for redrafting

Yup, pretty much. Low risk signing with nothing but upside.

C'mon and sign Rittich already...I keep hearing/reading that the team really likes him and considers him their starter, yet they haven't signed him yet to (what I hope) will be a starter-type contract similar to what Grubauer got from the Avs.

    1 pt/G or A, 2 pts/W, 1 pt/OTL, 1 pt/SO

    Forward: B. Point, M. Necas, A. Debrincat, T. Zegras, J. Bratt, L. Raymond
    Defense: J. Morrissey, A. DeAngelo, S. Gostisbehere, D. Doughty
    Goalie: T. Demko, E. Merzlikins
    Bench: M. Rossi, C. Glass, M. Maccelli, M. Dumba, K. Shattenkirk, F. Andersen
Prospects of Note: L. Stankoven, J. Lekkerimaki, D. Yurov, B. Clarke

I wouldn't be comfortable with a 3-year, $10M deal for Rittich if I were GM. He had one decent stretch and then faltered to the point that he lost the starter's job for the playoffs. I think that's part of the issue the Flames' management may be wresting with, hence the one-year prove-it deal with Talbot.

    “If developed properly”

Well there goes that, as long as Sigalet is still in the organization.

Ya, what ever happened to Gillies, so much hope for that guy. And then it was all about Parsons, but where is that going these days? I thought CGY was in great shape here but it just hasn't seemed to materialize.

We need to offer the Rangers' goalie coach a crap ton of money to pry him away. I'm not confident at all that any goalie we draft will amount to much.
Points only keeper. 12 Teams. No pos requirements. 18 skaters / 3 goalies (2 count for points.) G/A = 1 point each (includes goalies) Goalies = 1.5 for W / 4.5 for SO. Minors - 4 year protection. Prospects added during their draft year only. Undrafted = waivers.
    Skaters: Tolvanen,Jeannot,Drysdale,Benson,Sprong,Fantilli,H .Lindholm,T. Raddysh,K. Miller,Edvinsson,Roslovic,Sharangovich,McBain,Benn ett,Crouse, Luostarinen,Dube,Phillips
    Goalies: Gustavsson,Schmid,Vejmekla
    Minors: F.Pinelli,Beckman,Cossa,Nikkanen,Tieksola,Pashin,M cMichael,Konovalov,Svechkov,K.Johnson,Moore,Crista ll,Heidt,Ziemmer,Perron,Nadeau,Gulyayev,Wahlberg, Suniev,Tomasino,Khusnutdinov

I'm really glad I clicked through to the article. I really liked both Metallurg Magnitogorsk's uniform and the Milwaukee Admirals lower on the page.

He seems like a guy to toss on a watch list for now, that's for sure.
