Pageau Suspended for 1 Game for Hit From Behind

The hit that led to this suspension is a prime example of what is happening to hockey. The sport we used to know and love is quickly disappearing. Players no longer know how to protect themselves and are putting themselves in harms way.

On this play, Canucks dman Ashton Sauntner takes FIVE strides 2 feet away from the boards facing the glass. He stays in the exact same dangerous position for the whole time waiting to get hit in order to draw a penalty. The danger on this play is because of Sauntner's actions and not because Pageau finally hit him.

PS: This post is not saying anything about the DOPs or the actual hit by Pageau, it is merely talking about the fact that players are losing the ability/knowledge on how to protect themselves while playing a dangerous sport.

Damn! I came to bitch about Saunter's responsibility to protect himself but chuck was way ahead of me. Saunter looked like he was trying to skate the entire length of the ice directly facing the boards.
