    Default Samuel Girard's future

I know there are a lot of rumors saying that Barrie may be gone as soon as this summer. But there's also Makar on the way...

What's your take on Girard's future in the next 3 to 5 years, will he ever be the PP1 man that feeds MacK and Rantanen? So should I hold on to him?

If this isn't the case, should I try to sell him "high" in the off-season or should I wait to trade him?

I'll need to drop or trade at least one D before the start of next season (see league in Sig) so I have to make a move, one way or the other.

    Thanks for your insight!

For me Makar > Girard but he can still be effective on PP2 for the future. I just think Makar has more upside.

I don't think Girard is ever "the guy" in Colorado but should be a decent complimentary piece to who ever it is, down the road.

He will be kind of like a guy that used to be there IMO JM Lilles, great puck mover, solid defender...PP2 type of guy.

I'd say that's close to fair. Jake Gardiner comes to mind as another comparable. Capable of putting up 50 points as the second guy on offence.

I don't think Girard holds much value in this league. He's weak in PIM/HIT/BLK which are important categories for dmen. Package him with another roster player for a big upgrade. Target weaker GMs and rebuilders because at 20 there's always going to be a few people obsessed with potential.

I'd keep him over Johns 100%, sounds like his recovery isn't looking promising, also I'd keep Girard over Zadorov unless hits are worth a lot, his #s and mins are down this year.

I need Z hits, I have many good players but not much hitters in my team (when you have Johnny Hockey, Kaner and co. you need your hits where they are), so that's why I want to keep Zado over Girard. And Girard'll propably fetch something of value back.

I agree , I'll try to do that, maybe move him and another yougnster to get a solid 2nd goalie or an upgrade at D or LW.

    Thanks for your help everybody!

    ^Great comment here.
Girard is one of those guys who has very different fantasy hockey value.
Points-only, he could be sneaky-good... the way Rafalski put up points aside Lidstrom on those DET teams.
Girard IS the best LH offensive-D that the Avs have... so opportunity will be there.

But the Avs have much better hulking D to kill penalties and guard leads.
And Girard is small. So I don't think he'll ever have great peripherals - which is key to D-value in PIM/HIT/BLK leagues.
Try to move him now while those spin-o-rama highlights are in front of everybody's faces.
