    Ridiculous!

Wait for Mookie's deal. It will be similar, if not more than this one.

Wow. The Angels are not even gonna play 'hardball' with Trout. They just decided to pay him $10 million more per year than Harper. I would have started out by offering him $2 million more per year than Harper. $10 million per year is a lot in comparison to Harper.

Based on this craziness... we are going to see Vlad Jr or Acuna be the first player to sign a $1 Billion dollar contract.

I must have been looking at their "2019 salary". My bad.

    Stras - 38.33
    Scherzer - 37.4mill

There's 8 NHL teams who are worth the same, or less than the contract Trout just signed (Avs, Preds, Canes, Jets, Sabres, CBJ, Panthers, Arizona)

Is it though? Trout is like a top 2 MVP every year he's been healthy, and the other yrs he's been like a top 5 or something like that. He is nuts how good he is above everyone else, and on a bad-ish team. Him and Ohtani can be something special.

yeah, year by year salary fluctuates quite a bit... hockey's on another planet from other major sports.

I guess in comparison to hockey... would we ever see McDavid get 10 million more than Matthews if they signed a contract a month apart?

It's more like would you give McDavid 17.5% of the cap (13.9125mill/yr for hockey) when Matthews signed for 12.1% of the cap (9.620mill/yr for hockey) a month earlier.

Trout makes 17.5% of the "Luxury Tax limit", Harper makes 12.1% of the "Luxury Tax Limit" for the MLB. It's really not that bad, Trout is massively better than Harper, in all aspects of the game.

Would we see it happen? No. Is McDavid worth that much more than Matthews? Yes.

Just like Trout is worth that much more than Harper.

Obviously, this is talking in % numbers, not raw numbers as 2014OG states.
