Today: Start Kuemper, Greiss, Neither, or Both?

In a close Goalie match up this week for the first round of the playoffs in one of my league.

Current categories are:

Me: 3W, 1.95 GAA, .936 SV%, 1 SHO
Him: 3W, 2.34 GAA, .929 SV%, 0 SHO

Typically I would bench my goalies at this point and hope that I can win 2 to 3 of the 4 categories, however the other GM has some good goalies with easy match ups coming up, so it's possible he still beats me.

He has Fleury (@Van, @CGY), Gibson (vs LA on their B2B), Binnington (no more games). Fleury might only play vs Vancouver, since it's a B2B.

With Fleury in net against Vancouver, you have to consider the possibility of him getting a shutout. Fleury may also play against the Flames tomorrow. Good chance Gibson gets the start against LA in an easier matchup. To get the W cat, you need to start at least a goalie.

With that being said, I would say Kuemper is a must start. He’s got a good chance at a win and potentially a shutout. Greiss is a tougher call. But I would play him cause I don’t think he will sink your week and the Islanders play a defence first type game under Trotz. His gaa of 2.22 and .928 sv% should give you confidence that he won’t lay an egg.
