They have a great shot at representing the Metro in the East Final and then they just have to string 8 wins together for the Cup. The issue is if they fail (more likely than not given the odds) they will lose Duchene, Panarin and Bobrovsky all for nothing and won’t have a first round pick. Risky business by Kekalainen but I like it. Big balls on that guy.
I think the way Dreiger said it was he wouldn't be surprised if they're not done. Not "They aren't done". It was more of an opinion than a report at the time.

Ah, I must’ve misinterpreted than. Regardless, I’m in that boat. I don’t think they’ll move Panarin now, use him as their own rental, add a few complementary pieces and go for glory.

"lots of reasons to believe the Blue Jackets aren't done loading up" was the tweet. Take that as you may, but I read it as an opinion not a report. But, why not go for it all? Already moved to get Duchene, might as well try and get another piece.

I've also been fighting with fact vs fiction in trade rumor reporting for a while. I think they need two fonts, one for fact-based comments and another for speculation. There's a difference between "They're not done because I talked to someone with the team who told me they are looking for multiple additions" and "I think they're going to make more moves".

    HAHA awesome.

I am torn on what I would prefer now. I mean I like the deal if they decide to move Panarin because they'll be able to replenish some picks. But if they keep Panarin do they have enough to get in now? The East is basically down to 4 teams competing for 3 spots and I can't imagine Pittsburgh misses.

They move Panarin, they need 2 1st round picks, and 2 prospects to break even-ish. Won't likely happen.

This to me is an all-in move by CBJ, not a "switching assets"

I'm not sure where Columbus is going with this deal. They may not even make the playoffs, and Ottawa will benifit with their 1st pick. I can't see Duchene making a difference here. It seems like he has to be THE guy where he is clearly not in Columbus. It worked for him in Colorado while he was the guy and in Ottawa as well. It has to do with maturity. Maybe he is there?

Are we talking about a lottery protected 1st? He did get that. He had a choice to give Colorado the Sens 2018 1st or 2019 1st. Clearly intrading for Duchene they were expecting a better result this year, and frankly even if they finish dead last the odds are you are most likely get 4th overall. So maybe they felt Tkachuk at 4th is better than whoever is 4th this year. Bird in the hand and all that

I thought you could lottery-protect a pick period, not just make it a top 3 lettery pick protection?

A team can suggest as many protection stipulations as they was to. How many protections is the other team going to agree to though?
