    The Great One

Default ROOS LETS LOOSE POLL: Winningest goalies over the next five seasons

As part of my column revamp, I'll now be running a tournament (or I suppose technically you could call it a poll since there are no brackets) every four weeks, instead of the Cage Match Tournaments that had been occurring only twice a year. And if you remember from my last tournaments at the end of 2018, I said I'd try to make the next one about goalies, so here I’m fulfilling that promise.

If you want to vote now - instead of waiting for the full column on Wednesday that describes the contenders in more detail – you should feel free to do so. The premise is simple - choose the five goalies from the voting options who you think will win the most games from 2019-20 through 2024-25. If you think there’s a goalie not on this list who will finish in the top five, then select the four goalies who you think will be in the top five, plus the none of the above selection. If somehow you think more than one goalie not on this list will be in the top five, then vote for none of the above plus however many of the listed choices you think will be in the top five.

One last note – next week will mark the debut of my monthly fantasy mailbag column, and I need your fantasy hockey questions, so please get them to me in one of two ways: (1) via private message in these forums, or (2) via email to [email protected] with “Roos Mailbag” as the subject line.

This will probably be laughably wrong in 5 years but I went Vas, Andersen, Holtby, Hellebuyck and Price. Was tempted to put Gibson in there but the recent downturn of the Ducks has me a little concerned he could be a wasted talent in Anaheim. Hart could be in there but I think they might keep a veteran guy like Talbot around for a year or two which would bump his totals down a bit.

Andersen - top team, no competition for 2-3 years (Woll)
    Vasil - See Andersen basically
Helle - Comrie lurks, but far off in the shadows. I figure Brossoit gets taken by Seattle
    Hart
binnington - there's always a wildcard that pops up and shocks. He's mine... now, how do I acquire him in my 5 pools? heh

Voted for: Vasiveskiy, Hellebuyck, Andersen, Gibson, and.... None of the above.

There were some other interesting options that I see you guys all voted for, but there's often some random guy who pops up that's not on anyone's radar. More importantly, there are some guys who are in the league right now that could still be racking up wins 5 years from now not in the poll.

I dont get how anyone voted in this and didnt include Vasilevskiy and Hellebuyck.
Every other goalie you could make a case for why or why not, but those 2 are locks barring injury(which neither has a troublesome history of) to the goalie himself or all the core players of there stacked teams.

Vasilevskiy was the easy choice. From there, I went with Andersen, Gibson, Hellebuyck and Tuuuuukka Rask.

I went with Hellebuyck, Hart, Rask, Vasilevksi and None of the above since there is always a goalie that comes out of nowhere to be a star.

I like the lineups the best over the next 5 years in Winnipeg, Philly, Boston and TB while the goalies are also all youngish enough to be starters in each of the 5 years.

PS: Can someone remind me about this poll at the end of the 24/25 NHL season to see how we all did?
PPS: I like the strategy of writing an article that requires follow up in 6 years. It reminds of the George Costanza "leave behind".
