I’m a big traeger guy. Cook on it 12 months a year. Even if you don’t have a traeger, download the app. Great recipes from brisket to turkey to desserts to drinks.
I’m sure you’ve already realized but temperature, temperature, temperature is key. Make sure you monitor the temp of your meat and everything else comes with ease.

How would you compare Electric v. Gas v. Charcoal v. Pellet v. anything else?

I think it's just what else you can do besides smoking when it comes to this.

Electric ones seem to only do smoking

Gas, smoking, but you don't need a plug

Charcoal and Pellets you can typically crank it up to 400F to do other things to it?

I can very well be all wrong.

I'm curing a Brisket now, hopefully I can turn it into a Montreal Smoked Meat Brisket. If not, whatever it'll be good.

Little 5.75lb'r I picked up for $35 at the local butcher. He's telling me in a few weeks I'll have to order it on Monday to pick up on Friday cause it's gonna be so popular for the summer.

I’ve been on here 10 years and this is no doubt the best thread I’ve ever read. Outstanding info and links and great bbq stories. I got a Weber BBQ/smoker for Christmas and haven’t unwrapped it yet. I can’t wait for warmer weather. Wow.

I don't know how to smoke meat but I love eating smoked fish. Smoked DEER/MOOSE meat I find is too tough so I don't bother eating it.

Lots of fishing for sockeye salmon here. Most people just package the fish and freeze em but dried salmon has to taste the best. Makes your mouth dry though.

DRY FISH + Tim Hortons coffee ... can't think of a better combo!

hijacking this thread for a moment.... I've got it narrowed down to these two purchase options:

This one is routinely on the top of 'best smoker's under $500' lists. I've been through at least 10 rating sites and it's #1 or #2 on all of them.
    https://www.homedepot.ca/product/weber-smokey-mountain-22-5-inch-charcoal-cooker-smoker-in-black/1000689256

    The second:
    https://www.walmart.ca/en/ip/akorn-kamado-smoker-and-grill-black/6000198994583

This one routinely gets rave reviews, especially for being an affordably Kamado. Rare to find one for under $500... most seem to be $900 or more. I think with this I would give up a bit of smoking capability vs. the weber, but the thing this has going for it is that it gets up to 700 degrees. The selling point here, is with the wife - Pizza's.

I think I'm leaning Kamado here... Just gotta bring this Championship home so there's no conversation on the cost
